FedEx Mobile brings you the essential functionality of the official FedEX Web site, making it easy for you to track packages or find nearby FedEx locations, but lacks more advanced features and works only in Portrait mode, which can be a pain on a tablet. In other words, this app is useful but not perfect.
Easy tracking: Checking the status of a package with FedEx Mobile takes just a few taps -- you just have to enter a tracking number and then you get detailed information, including all the checkpoints it reaches along the way. You can track multiple shipments, as well.
Pleasant UI: Overall, the interface looks good, moves smoothly, and feels accessible, in that the left-hand sidebar enables you to quickly view current shipments as well as create new ones. If you need to use FedEx shipping services on the go, doing it through this app proves easier than through a Web browser, even though you're often directed to the Web site to complete functions.
Relies too much on the Web site: Most of the app's features, including Create a Shipment, Get Rates, or Schedule a Pickup aren't actually integrated in the app. When you try to access them, you are taken to the FedEx Web site, through which you have to fill in the blanks and complete the forms.
Lacks advanced features: A barcode scanner and the ability to approximate a package's dimensions based on a photo, features offered by other similar apps, would have made this app more useful. Also, there are no notifications for delivered packages.
If you use FedEx regularly, you should have FedEx Mobile on your device. To enjoy all the features, you have to log in to your FedEx account, but this is still a useful app to have on hand if you send packages frequently and need to know where they are at any given moment.
