Instead of performing 'if' validation checks with raising exceptions in your code, the Shield provides fluent coding and code implementation, register exception messages (with placeholders if required), define custom messages with parameters, override default exception with own defined exception, extend Shield with your own business assertions, singleton access pattern that is thread safe, and allow logging with provided callback.
