• Just as good as the earlier versions

  Simple to use Makes clods like me, with no artistic ability, look very clever Clever artwork and clip art, far superior to that well known Microsoft product Works much the same as well loved earlier program, with a few fancy upgrades All the flair of complex clip art software in an easy to use format Can convert and output documents in all well known clip art formats

  A few minor peculiarities - zoom can be complicated Can take a little while to learn to use all its fancy tools Great software, but not well known

• Once a great program - now junk

  Pros

  I find no pros to this upgrade. I began using Arts & Letters in the late 90's and it was one of the easiest, most powerful graphics programs I used. It was the only graphics program I used in my printing business. During the early years they offered great support and a great product. They were unsuccessful in adapting their program to the 64 bit environment, and with each new "upgrade" the product degraded.

  Cons

  You will not be able to get ANY support from the company. They do not respond to email. They do not offer a telephone number. I have tried sending mail to their address, 3911 Cypress Creek Road, Comfort, TX. 78013 and get no reply. When this version was first released and I was offered a discount upgrade as a former user, I tried to get information on what was included in the upgrade and if it corrected specific bugs from earlier "upgrades." The most most stable version was 6.0, which unfortunately, my disk was destroyed and I have not been able to find another one. I was running Windows XP 32 bit on my Mac just so I could run that version. The installation was corrupted and I was unable to reinstall. I am using 8.0 at this time, which I find is better than this "upgrade", but would love to find a copy of 6.0 to use again.

  Summary

  Don't waste your money on this program. I don't know what happened to the company. It was one of the finest vector based graphic programs out there. I am guessing they had marketing problems. In the graphics world, it was one of the best kept secrets out there. It was the most intuitive program I have ever used.

• compatibility problems with Windows XP

  The old versions work okay, easy to use.

  The new version arts & letters 7.0 is crappy. Not compatible with Windows XP, when I import, export or try to save the program shuts down. They advertise that the new upgrades give better file organization, not true. My files are all scrambled, not in alphabetical order. Whent he manufacture is contacted they try to put the blame on Microsoft or Windows. They tell me I need to uninstall any and all spyware and anti spam software that is installed on my computer...I have to put my computer at risk to use this software. Even after following their instructions it still won't work. It looks like they were so anxious to release this new version that it was not throughly tested for compatibility. If this problem cannot be resolved I plan to stop using this Mickey Mouse software and invest in one of the better programs. I have been an Arts & Letters user now for over seven years, the new version is JUNK!
