An impressively poor UI
Summary
I was looking for a simply WYSIWYG solution for quick blog markup because the built in tools of the provider wasted too much of my time. Amaya is backed by W3C so I figured it would get "simple for most users" right. Wrong. The UI creates more confusion than necessary for those seeking a fast and easy WYSIWYG solution. And after noticing what I think were a couple of bizarro bugs I started the search anew. I settled on BlueGriffin. (Let's hope it does the job.)

Pros
Very good for learning how to hand-code, as it warns of any non-valid code or other errors. It also has numerous maths and scientific functions for those communities. The WYSIWYG editor is OK for minor adjustments, but for anything more ambitious, you'd want to open your webpage in your usual browser, and just edit the souce code in Amaya.
Cons
If you're looking for an easy-to-use WSIWYG editor, this isn't the one for you. Blue Griffon or Kompozer would be much better choices. CSS support is limited.
Summary
A specialised application, not to be confused with a general-purpose WYSIWYG web-page builder.

This program has nothing to recommend it.

Sprays crap all over your code, no FTP support, remote publishing only via PUT which amounts to zero remote publishing unless you're in a position (and can be bothered) to screw around with your httpd server, just about the worst preview I've seen in any wysiwyg code editor, not true wysiwyg, Ubuntu version flaky as all hell. Appallingly bad interface design - doesn't adhere to any kind of recognisable interface standard.
Summary
Avoid like the plague, complete waste of time. Surprised the W3C crew would release anything this atrociously bad under their brand.

Pros
I prefer it to Dreamweaver, Kompozer etc. It warns you of any errors you make in the code, but doesn't automatically attempt to fix them (which can make things go awry, as with SeaMonkey, for example). Easy to work with and produces extremely stable, standards-compliant code.
Cons
It doesn't implement CSS well at all, and isn't really WYSIWYG. You need to keep the page you're working on open in a broswer window as well. But it's a good idea to do that with any HTML editor.
Summary
Not for beginners, but an excellent choice for those who like a mixture of graphic interface editing and hand coding.

Pros
For the price why use anything else. It is simple to use and set up CSS sheets.
Cons
None. Maybe programs like cs4 and Dreamweaver are better as they have more options, but they are heavy, large and a huge learning curve.

uh.. never really dug into this program because of its bad interface and unnecessary functions.

doesn't read & save my file correctly; it saves crap to my file, destroying all formatting stuff making them 'one line'. doesn't even have CTRL + O to open files. i just want a simple code reader / editor but Amaya is not.

wait until this program is mature enough to be useful.

Pros
I use Dreamweaver and nothing compares to that. <p>But I am thinking about switching to a Linux environment and wanted to see what - if anything - comes close to DW. <p>This program is missing some of the powerful features of DW. But it has a lot of features for a free program and seems decent. I just installed it so it's a little early to tell.
Cons
- Can't view pages in different browsers? (Maybe you can and I didn't see how yet.)<p>- Can't save in formats like PHP.

Pros
I love Homesites but I don't htink Adobe (back then Macromedia) upgraded it since 5.5. This to me is the best replacement I have found. You are able to view and edit the source code while viewing what it will look like in your browser
Cons
I have not found anything I don.t like about this product yet, if I do, I'll let people know. I value the CNET reviews.
