"Used to be a good service"
Version: jConnect
Pros
Free phone number for voice mail, and faxes. I've had the free phone number for over four years, with no major problems up until recently.
Cons
I suspect that the company wants me to start paying for the service or cancel my account, because I have recently started to receive several incomplete, annoying and identical voice mails by an automated device. No Caller ID.

"DON'T DO IT !!!"
Version: jConnect
Pros
It's good to get mad enough about something every now and then to actually take some action. jConnect made me this mad. Thank you jConnect.
Cons
a) "Free" service requires proprietary software instead of just sending a wav
b) "Free" service requires Microsoft license ($100)
c) Customer service provided me factually incorrect information.
d) Customer service went out of their way to insult me!Summary
I called up jConnect at (888) 718-2000 and asked them if they offered a free service which allowed me to receive voicemails. They claimed they did. I said terrific, I have already signed up for the service but I am having trouble using the free service for under $100. How do I use it without purchasing a copy to Windows? They claimed that I would have to purchase a copy of Windows but then went a step further and UNBELIEVABLY made fun of me for not having Windows. They further falsely stated that I didn't own a PC because my personal computer didn't have Windows installed. Based upon this attitude I urge you to use any service at all but jConnect. jConnect also provided other factually and technically incorrect information.

"Great... if it works for you..."
Version: jConnect
Pros
Hard to complain about a free service which gives you a phone number which can receive voicemails and faxes...
Cons
...hard, that is, until they give your number back to the carrier, provide you with zero warning of the change, and inform you that you can sign up for another account if you need a new number.
Summary
As someone who had an eFax number for about a decade I was a mostly satisfied customer of j2 Global. I signed up for a jConnect account so that I could receive voicemails and faxes at the same number and was a happy customer for almost a year before learning (today) that my number had been given back to one of the carriers with whom they no longer do business a month ago. The company technically doesn't provide technical support for free service users but they were gracious enough to look into the problem and tell me that premium subscribers are notified of such changes. One would think getting an email message saying your service is being discontinued would be standard practice; maybe it will be in the future. All in all it's a great service - if it works for you...

"a rip off! service sucked! took my$ after cancellation!"
Version: jConnect
Pros
looks pretty
Cons
service sucked! charged about $20 /month whether or not you use the service (actual pages during faxing cost add'l $) and i kept receiving erroneous faxes and junk voice messages/faxes.
Summary
not worth the hassle. plenty of other fax solutions out there to choose from. i still have not received full refund of the money they continued to take after i cancelled the service.
