Users with multiple digital photo storage areas may have difficulty working with them using traditional photo programs. While limited in terms of features, iPhoto Library Manager for Mac works well as a library manager.

Available as a free trial version with limitations that are not apparent, the full version requires payment of $29.95. The program's download and installation, in part due to the native installer, completed quickly, and setup required acceptance of a user agreement. Support for updates appeared to be available and, while there were no easily located instructions, the program's menus were easy to figure out. After the program automatically loads the photos available on the computer, the user can select from a number of buttons along the top row of the program. These allow creation of new libraries, adding existing libraries, and opening iPhoto for further editing. The graphics associated with the buttons are easy to read. Users can also merge libraries as well as locate and delete duplicate photos, a welcome option for those who are in need of hard drive space. While iPhoto Library Manager for Mac does not advertise itself as a photo editor, some basic editing features would have been a welcome addition to the program, rather than simply directing the user to iPhoto.

While limited in its functions, iPhoto Library Manager for Mac works well as a basic photo file manager.

In addition to the software being solid, the customer service support "rocks". My iPhoto Library became corrupted (bug in iPhoto where in certain cases it writes out bad data to the AlbumData.xml file). The folks at Fat Cat Software knew of the error, and their most recent version of IPLM (4.0.9) used a different method for reading the library data then the version I had. They actually provided me a link to the newer version, and provided a new serial number for this version, free of charge. After downloading this newer version, I was able to display my library correctly. In the day when customer service satisfaction is mediocre or non existent, the time they spent and their helpfulness to correct the problem is so appreciated. I had many pictures, events, and albums that r special to me over the years and the thought of them being corrupted was disheartening. Buy their software! You won't be disappointed. Angel Dominguez

"any file size transfer" well, not exactly. it couldn't handle one library I was trying to make os 7GB, but I just did half at a time and it worked beautifully, so I can't really complain.
Summary
Fabulous program. I had a library of 7,000 photos (40+GB) that made me dread ever opening iPhoto. Now I can switch between individual libraries on the fly and rarely get bogged down anynmore. Has made off-loading my older stuff onto a backup drive so much simpler and cleaner! It got me 40+GB of hard drive space. Best $30 I've spent in a while.
v.good but not excellent at finding duplicates

I bought it solely for the process of finding duplicates. It aided me immensely by finding hundreds--and worked far better than Duplicate Annihilator, a cheaper program I'd also tried.
Cons
It also failed to identify hundreds of duplicates, so the process had to be continued arduously and manually. So it's not a panacea for cleaning up your iPhoto library. ("Duplicates" are tricky to pin down, I gather, because they can vary by size, metadata, etc.)
Summary
I'm immensely grateful for what the program did, but there's lots of room for improvement, especially given the price. Again, I speak only of the duplicate-id functionality.
Couldn't get along without this.

Pros
Eliminates the need to keep slow-loading, humungous libraries by easily creating, organizing, and accessing smaller, more specialized libraries. Displays contents (albums) of all your libraries without having to open each one, then allows you to drag-and-drop to copy albums among libraries. The copying does require opening and closing the libraries involved, but the application handles that for you. Creating new libraries is a snap, as is renaming libraries. The app also keeps track of where libraries are located, even on unmounted disks.
Cons
Can't think of any, unless I mention the small nuisance of having to rebuild libraries created by older versions. But that is a small price to pay for frequent updates. I've been using the manager for years, and if there have been any paid upgrades, they have been so infrequent that I don't recall the last one.
Summary
This is a must-have application for any power user of iPhoto. Capable, efficient, and intuitive. It should be included in iPhoto itself, but if it were, I'd probably be complaining about Apple's imperious and arbitrary development of it.

Pros
After a year away I needed to merge 3 iPhoto libraries and keep them sorted into events etc. This did the job and was quite intuitive.

What a shame this program no longer functions properly with the new version of iPhoto. I've upgraded both programs to the most recent versions with no success. Unable to create add libraries created with the new version of iPhoto to iPhoto Manager and can no longer transfer pictures between libraries. Unless this issue is resolved the program is for all intents and purposes useless to me.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jun 23, 2012<p/>iPhoto Manager works again with no glitches. Had to uninstall iPhoto Manager, download a new .dmg from website and reinstall. Love this program so am very glad it is now working as it should. Now it deserves 5 stars.
