The aptly named copyrightInserter for Mac adds a copyright watermark to your online images with a minimum of fuss.

This freeware program lacks an installer, which requires the user to click and drag the file to the Applications folder. The folder containing the program also held readme, licensing agreement, and tutorial files. The tutorial file helped, even though the application had an easy-to-use menu. copyrightInserter for Mac has clearly labeled areas where the user can drag folders containing image files. A second box shows where the watermark image may be dragged. The user can also select the general location of the watermark, although being able to pinpoint the precise location where the image sits would have been a welcome feature. The image transparency is also customizable. The freeware program advertises for donations and the menu, as well as the readme file, contains some informal writing. Overall, this is not much of a distraction since the program works well and places the watermark as advertised.

copyrightInserter for Mac would be a welcome addition for users who want the ability to quickly place a watermark on an image or a group of images. The program is easy to use and performs its functions well.

What’s new in version 1.8.5

Five years later, had yet another request for dragging images in directly, and finally decided to make it happen. It does now. Added Sparkle for further updates. Also renames the pictures you are working in, rather then overwriting them, in case such overwriting is accidental. Easier to erase the originals then try and get them back, right?

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I whacked away on a bunch of images, trying out the features... everything worked exactly as documented. Manual mode is the way to go, you get to position the copyright line wherever you want it. I even made a tiff with a transparent background and low and behold, I was placing just text on the images. Apologies to yer mum, but please get a real icon! I'd also suggest a better name; while it's primary purpose is the copyright line, it really is a simple compositing application. For the future, it would be cool to easily allow choosing the image to composit dynamically... it is best to use black type for some images and white type with others. Small bug... the preview window shows scroll bars that indicate not a complete view, but the images were small and I WAS seeing all of them.
Great little app.....but be careful!

It seems this overwrites (no pun intended ) the original image files if you are not sending them to a different folder. Maybe adding something to their names might be a way of preventing this. I have ruined a few pictures testing this out. I'm sure it warns us about this in the tutorial rftd but the app is so straightforward I didn't actually read that!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I tried it first on a tiff file - didn't work at all. Next I tried a jpg file -- all I got was a "double exposed" image with the second image offset from the original image by about 1/4". Totally unusable for me.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />There are a few problome thogh. One is it doesn't save the settings. Two it would be nice to preview the images, just the first one. Three set custom positions on the image, possibly by % like leave 2% border or 2px border. Four, more information on the progress bar, like % done, current image, images done and images left. I did have one big problems witch it completely messed up gif images. Possibly rewrite the color channel to allocate the image your inserting over it, or alter the (C) image to fit within the color channel i.e.. black and white or gray scale. Over all it is a nice app.
