Internet connections may be getting faster by the day, but big files are still tricky to send online. That's where Zip software, which shrinks files into smaller packages, comes in handy. The most popular way to compress big files remains the venerable WinZip, but programs such as ZipThis give computer users additional options. The program functions smoothly and effectively. Users simply identify where they want the final Zip archive of compressed files to be created, select which files to shrink and store, and the archive is created in just a few seconds. The resulting file is typically much smaller than the original, although the final size depends on what kind of file is being compressed. The program allows a user to launch an e-mail program with a single click, and easily send the newly created archive files over the Net. The compressed files can be opened, or unzipped, by whoever receives them, even if they don't have ZipThis on their own computer. We found a few minor cosmetic glitches, and would like to see a few more options for handling files. However, overall ZipThis is a simple alternative for anyone who seeks to compress their files for storage or for sending online.Publisher's description
