  Worked using free/trial service, but once I paid and used the Basic service each file generated an error.

  Summary

  Might be a ripoff, or might be broken. In any case I called paypal and got a refund on my first month, and cancelled the subscription. Not recommended/

  Pros

  Does exactly what it says for small files, it gives options for a paid account but you can still use the service for free if you you have common knowledge of downloading from internet sites.

  None so far, besides expected quality loss during conversion

  Worked really good for a bunch of 5-15 second clips I had stored for 10 years.

  I don't know if their pay site functions well or not but they advertise it as being a free to use site, which is a lie.

  Claims to offer a free service, but is actually a pay site. Scam.

  Summary

  I was looking t transfer a file from .mov format to .avi to get some editing work done. Not having access to my computer, I googled ".mov to .avi" to see if there was a website I could use to avoid downloading files on a friend's computer. Zamzar claims to be a "Free Online Conversion Site" but told me that to upload my thirty second .mov file I would have to upgrade to a paid account. So it's a scam site. Any site that puts "Free" in their description and then immediately asks you to pay for their service doesn't deserve your money. If you need a conversion site use one that is up front about what they're going to charge you. Bottom line: Zamzar's chosen tag line is a lie. If they're willing to lie about that, odds are good they lie about the quality of their service, too. Avoid at all costs.

  I can't think of any ... why would you use something if it fails to perform

  If it worked then i would sign up and use it but it never worked so i can't recommend anyone trying this service. Free should always be taken with a grain of salt.

  Pros

  Will convert a SMALL (trivial size) file immediately -- that's the cheesy sleazy come-on.

  Cons

  Put in, say, a 3-page text file to turn into MP3, and then you never hear from them -- not even "sorry, we're busy now, we'll send you the file in 3 weeks", but that's where they leave you. Don't waste your time with these something for nothing games.

  Fast. FREE. No software download. Super easy.

  Cons

  Only con (which really isn't a big deal) was that it kept making you think you had to register with your email...but if you read carefully you would see that the big register button was NOT required & you could pick the "small print" link below it to get the actual downloaded file you wanted. If you've ever used freeware, you should be used to how to navigate to avoid the "land mines."

  Summary

  I had a .wpd file I needed to see & couldn't get open any other way (so far). Went to the site and within five minutes it was converted to a pdf file. Perfect!

  Easy to use. Free.

  Cons

  No indication of whether your conversion worked or not until you receive a confirmation email. Out of hundreds of attempts today, one of them was successful. Just one. No indication of problems encountered so no way of correcting the issue and trying again.

  I converted a simple pdf to doc format but it didn't convert it, it just put images of the pages onto a doc! So now instead of a pdf I have images on a doc that I can't do anything with.
