• v2.4 not new - 18 months old

  Pros

  As one reviewer states is is a visual feast: the interface is nice and you can display up to 12 images in a recipe.

  Cons

  However it is buggy and I have it beach ball routinely. Many auto-fill items such as "Keywords" and "Cuisine" might auto-fill (auto-complete) as I type one minute but quit the next. Even if I quit YS and relaunch these auto-fills fields may or may not work. Images: when working with the thumbnails of images the fail to represent the image pasted in. THey typically look like some previous used image, making it impossible to know where the real image should be inserted into the recipe. Ken has for a year or more promised new versions of the Mac app and the almost useless iOS version... Many other irritating bugs but still my go-to application.

  I came to CNET today because I got notified of a "new version 2.4" - which has been out since 28-Aug-2011. So why the CNET email and why it is featured on CNETs Mac Software New Downloads area?

• A Visual Feast!

  Visually pleasing, simple to use and functions well.

  Cons

  Missing a few basic functions (IMHO) that most recipe software have. I was pleased to learn that these functions, as well as others are slated to be released soon in their upgrade... so no cons except for having to wait a few weeks for the upgrade.

  Summary

  Pretty near perfect for me, once all features are included in the soon to be released upgrade. I have been in the search for the perfect recipe application and this really fits the bill. If you are a visual learner or the type that likes to buy cookbooks with a fair amount of pictures in it, then this is your dream come true. You can easily scan through your entire library by sight or narrow it down by group or ingredient. The visual aspect is really important for me. I have hundreds of recipes and sometimes I forget the name of them, but I know it when I see it! Even better Yummy Soup! is handling all of them with no problems (other programs I tried, even without such a large library were buggy or problematic in some way). The web importer is superb. Just dray the URL into your library and voila! It is done for you & all in the right places (on some complicated recipes with a number of recipes within a recipe the spacing has been a little off, but nothing like I've experienced before, like scrabble pieces. A little minor editing and all is straightened out). Easy, elegant and visually stunning. It works like it is supposed to, it handles a large library well and there is enough customization and/or options to satisfy most people. Once the upgrades are in place this should kick a**

  Developer keep[s changing it. UI could be improved. Search is not great. No shopping list facilities.

  Summary

  This software has some nice touches, and a few small glitches. But the worst thing is that the developer (it's a one man shop) keeps changing the way it works with every weekly update. For example, it used to have a shopping list generator, and it just went. Or the HTML templates for the recipes have just changed, so if you created some they don't work anymore.

  It allows easy input of recipe data from any source, though input from a web site is the easiest.

  I upgrade to V2 when it came out the week or two after I bought V1. V2 from the outset was almost unusable. But I must say the developer has, in a week or two, made several changes (updates) .

  Summary

  Version 2.0 of YummieSoup was at best a Beta and should not have been released in that state. Having said that, I am certain the developers will get the bugs ironed out. How do I know this? I just have to look at the version releases over the few weeks V2 has been out to see it is now V2.0.6. This tells me they are paying attention. I do love the intent of the product. It does make storing recipes almost fun.

  Very easy to use!! I can add my own recipes,it has a great web importer for adding recipes from the internet.

  I wish that it had nutrition data

  Summary

  I have tried at least 5 other software recipe management programs, but yummy soup is the very best!! And it keeps improving all the time with new updates.

  Pros

  I love this application! I have tried a number of recipe applications and this one is by far the best. Easy importing from other sites, no typing required, just select and drag and it is done.

  A few small bugs to iron out, but nothing major that I could find.

I have even tried to turn regular organizing softwares into a recipe journal. YummySoup is the best!! I am always finding recipes, but too lazy to walk through all the steps to get the recipe into other recipe softwares. The most important part of a recipe software to me is getting the recipes into the software as you find them. With YummySoup, if you see a recipe online, click a button and viola! You can even drag the picture of the dish into the recipe. Awesome!! Totallly!! If there are recipes you have in files, copy them and with the same easy import method of highlighting, they too are imported into YummySoup. Like SmartFolders? (hamburger in recipe, 5 star recipes, to try recipes, etc) YummySoup has it. I sure hope YummySoup will make our recipes available in an iPhone app, so we can carry them to the kitchen. PLEASE!!! I gave 4 stars on features because the need of iPod support. I love you YummySoup!

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />2 years ago this and Mac Gourmet were basically the two players in the game. The future looked bright, and v2.0 was eagerly anticipated. The iPhone came along and with that so too did claims of an iPhone app soon coming. February 2010...still no v2.0, not even a hint of an iPhone app, and not much news from the developer. There have been other instances of claims not matching reality. Announced pricing of v2 was redacted (ok I can understand that) and then later denied by the developer. It is one thing to change policies, it is another to tell customers one policy change your mind, remove the evidence and then deny you ever said the initial statement. Apart from the unreliability of the developer is the software itself. It is 100% proprietary. You cannot migrate to another database as there is no useful export. It does what it does well, but you must be satisfied with that and expect nothing more. Other apps (Mac Gourmet) have developed, added features, have had an iPhone app for quite some time, and are moving forward. I prefer to spend money on software that does the job and will continue to improve. Unfortunately YS has no such track record. Yes there have been improvements, but the developer was over promising and under delivering. Roping buyers, like me, in with hopes of v2 and an iPhone app. I waited, nothing came, moved to a new system and a year later still nothing that was to be years ago. Buyer beware.

  It's a software that you can easily browse so many delicious recipes and also update them online or edit manually. It's very professional with the categories and even pictures. You can email the recipes instantly and share with your friends.
