You Control: Tunes is a free utility that gives you complete control over iTunes from the Mac OS X menu bar. You don't have to stop whatever it is you may be doing, switch to iTunes, take care of business and then go back to your original app. You can now simply pull down your very own custom menu that gives you access to the iTunes controls (Next, Previous, Volume, Play/Pause, Stop) as well as displaying the current track, artist and album. You can also navigate your entire iTunes music library from this menu as well so you never leave your current application.

Excellent! Just what I was looking for!

Pros
Very clean, customizable and simple. It is comparable to other similar products for which you must pay.The pull-down menu from the menu bar means that you can easily change songs from within full-screen programs which is a huge selling point for me.
Cons
When the song ticker is running you cannot see the operational buttons without rolling your mouse over the menu bar.
Summary
It adds buttons on your menu bar from which you can play, pause, go forward and go back as well as rate the songs! There is also a song ticker that you may turn on and off in your menu bar which is useful if you don't feel like having the big notifier pop up on your screen. You can customize the button style and there is also a great variety of styles/positions for the little pop-up song notifier. The big thing that I enjoy about this app is the pull-down song menu that allows you to change songs or albums without having to open the main itunes window.
haven't used it enough yet to make objective assessment

The drop-down menu gives all the info you could ever want. Love the choice of icons in the menu. I need orange. :-) It fits right in with iTunes 8.
a really outstanding little program

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I have paid for and donated to several other itunes control programs. This one does all of the good things and none of the bad things the other programs did. And it is free and better on just about every count. Highly recommended.
The developer might want to consider adding a transparency preference for the overlay. But that's a quibble.
Look ... it's awesome!

This program rocks! Simple to set up and use and YOU CONTROL everything! It is awesome!
I never write these reviews ... but this one I could not pass up! You won't be able to either. Get it now.
Can't imagine it being any better

Controls your iTunes from the menubar with awesome dropdown menus that display your entire iTunes library (including artwork)! No more having to hide/unhide iTunes to change music or view your library, playlists, etc...just simple scrolling down from the menubar. And, it's free (thank you developer)!!! (OS 10.4.11)
