Editors' review

If you use more than one computer or more than one browser, you have probably experienced the frustration of not having access to a particular bookmark that you need. Fortunately, bookmarks are something that you can easily sync across machines or browsers thanks to Xmarks for Internet Explorer. This simple extension keeps your bookmarks consistent across locations, ensuring that you always have access to the sites you need.

Xmarks for Internet Explorer installs easily and then guides you through a setup wizard to create an Xmarks account if you don't already have one. Xmarks then backs up your bookmarks to the cloud, where they'll wait safely until you need them. To access them elsewhere, simply install the Xmarks add-on on another machine or browser, and sign in, and your bookmarks will be synced automatically. Because Xmarks works with Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, it's easy to standardize your bookmarks across browsers. If you don't necessarily want all of your bookmarks synced you can create profiles that contain specific bookmarks and exclude others. You can even view open tabs remotely, a very cool feature if you left an important page open but can't remember the URL. Overall, we were quite impressed with the range of features that Xmarks offers, and we think it's a fantastic choice for anyone who uses more than one computer or just needs to sync bookmarks between different browsers.

Xmarks for Internet Explorer installs and uninstalls without issues.

    "Eventually stared getting duplicates"

    November 25, 2013   |   By Holmes1245

Version: Xmarks for Internet Explorer 1.3.5

    Pros

The Good: You are able to sync your bookmarks across Firefox, Chrome and IE.

    Cons

The bad: You will start losing bookmarks or getting duplicates. My problem is that I could not easily sync bookmarks across all three browsers. When I started using Chrome and synced bookmarks to my Google account through Chrome, all my bookmarks were duplicated. I later found out there was a discrepancy between Chrome and Xmarks. However, I blame LastPass (the company behind Xmarks) because I was using their Chrome app which should have seen this coming. Hence, my bookmarks were all duplicated - a total mess. A app that specializes in syncing bookmarks should not have allowed this to happen. I organized my favorites and just recently installed Xmarks for IE only to have Xmarks assume that I wanted my old favorites in IE joined with my favorites on the Xmarks server. My IE favorites were messed up so I uninstalled Xmarks on Firefox and Chrome before it could do any more damage.

    Summary

I really do think I'm better off sticking to Chrome. I'm going back to Chrome exclusively due to this mess. You can say it's the user's fault but syncing bookmarks needs to be easier than what Xmarks makes it in the first place since many people out there can't afford to lose their favorites. Go ahead and use. Good luck on being able to sync perfectly each and every time.

    Ease of install

    Cons

Installed on Chrome, IE and Firefox. I was expecting to sync up all my favorites. As time went by, over a week, I began to lose all my favorites across all the browsers.

    Summary

Make sure you back up all your favorites to a file before attempting to use this program
