Measure sizes of your files and folders.

WhatSize is a simple tool that allows the user to quickly measure the size in bytes of a given folder and all subfolders and files within it. You would be surprised at how many useless files might be laying around on your hard disks. The files and folders are automatically sorted by size, with the biggest sizes first. While the app is measuring a folder the user can browse the files within that folder and immediately see the size in bytes. Hidden files, cache files, directories will all show up with their corresponding size. This application is similar to the ancient NeXTSTEP, DarkForest. Once the measuring of a folder has ended the user can also view the information by filtering for particular file sizes or types. The user can also move unwanted files and folder in the corresponding Trash bin similar to the Finder's Delete button.

Pros
After understanding what this program can do for you I decided to get myself a license. The first thing that made med react was the fact that it wanted my creditcard information within the application. Never seen this before... The second and more obvious big W A R N I N G is that it actually asked me to access my adress book. Why for any reason would it need it. Why whould I give it access to it? Reports of major spam from this company has been reported. Dont buy it! Dont give it access. Actually it should be banned from any serius download site! W A R N I N G!!!!!!!!! W A R N I N G!!!!! W A R N I N G!!!!!

Pros
It makes it really easy to see what's taking up the most room on your hard drive, so you can decide what to get rid of to give you more space. Very intuitive design.
Cons
Sometimes you have to select "open file or folder in finder" before you can move it to trash.
Summary
The best program I've used for figuring out what's taking up all your hard drive space. I don't know what the reviewer from April 2013 is talking about - I paid for my version, didn't get any spam.

I downloaded the free version and then went to upgrade to the unlimited version. The first clue was when their payment gateway asked for access to my address book. Immediately afterward, I started receiving tons of spam on an email account used to be spam free. They're all formatted similarly as images with links. I'm really PISSED! WARNING - DON'T BUY!!!

Pros
It is easy to use. From launch it analyzed my boot drive and quickly sorted the files by size with colors for each size range. I can navigate to the files by double clicking on any file or folder. The column display allows for easy expansion into more detail down to the file level.

Summary
If you are wondering why your hard drive storage space is disappearing WhatSize is a very good place to start. It provides an easy to understand breakdown of all the files on your hard drive. You can navigate to files from within the app saving time and effort.
Not a good program to use for finding duplicates

Pros
Works well to determine sizes of files.
Cons
Find duplicate file function is almost totally useless. Requires user to manual review all duplicates and only provides one practical option, move to trash. When you have large numbers of duplicates like 175k, their program is functionally useless.
Summary
I use the program when in beta it find and size files. Great at that. When they went commercial they added find duplicates but it is functionally useless. User must manually review groups of duplicates and remove those not wanted manually to trash. No meaningful way to filter duplicates such as keep oldest or newest copy and delete rest. Also no way to move duplicates to anyplace but trash so you can use other programs that have better filters. Lastly, can only move 2000 duplicates to trash at a time. Not worth $12.50 unless you need to find size of files only.

Pros
Very simple to use with a nice GUI. Especially useful for revealing any space grabbing invisible volumes created by cloning software like CCC by Bombich.
Cons
It seems a little slow at times, but that could be just because it is often used on crammed drives.
Summary
A simple way to look thru your drive for useless files and delete them easily right from the app.
