A browser add-on that serves as a search-engine aggregator, WebFerret works quickly and well, but its frames-approach interface has a rather cluttered appearance.
Because this add-on doesn't use Google, it can be a nice complement to that otherwise ubiquitous engine. (Perhaps oddly enough, among WebFerret's results are Ads By Google.) The interface at launch is a basic Windows-style pane; it returns results that include complete URLs and site descriptions. However, once you click on a site to visit, the tool opens a two-framed window with a list of results on one side and the selected page on the other. If the opened site uses frames, the window looks even more cluttered and confusing.
WebFerret returned results quickly in our tests. You can select a preferred browser from a list of options, including Firefox. During setup, WebFerret added its search feature to our Internet Explorer toolbar, but wouldn't do so to our Firefox browser, a drawback for those who don't use Microsoft's product. Other than that complaint, this free add-on worked nicely as a complement to our Google searches, and many users will find it a handy tool for searching the Web.
Publisher's description
From CBS Interactive :WebFerret provides a handy and efficient way to find information on the Web. It's fast, easy to use, and free. Enter your search words and choose from four options: all keywords, any keyword, exact phrase, or Boolean expression. WebFerret will use your Internet connection to query popular search engines and will return an unlimited number of hits. You can validate selected results, save your search history, and filter out pornography and foul language. Advanced features let you set the closeness of the match, and remove duplicates. The results are returned as a sortable list. Just double-click on a link to bring up your browser and launch the page. WebFerret is powered by Search.com.

Version: WebFerret 6
Pros: Close all running programs, install WebFerret, and restart. Open IE. If the "WebFerret" search bar isn't showing in the IE upper bar, RIGHT-click on an UNused portion of that IE bar, and select "WebFerret."

Version: WebFerret 6
"Very poor search results, mostly ads for click thru"
Pros: Nothing. Read below...
Cons: I only use the Quick Search external program. I searched for specific part numbers to products. 45% of the results are spam websites from MIVA and GOOGLE ADS. ***??? Tons of "free gift cards" and "free ipods" results for something not even close to my search. NO WAY TO REMOVE INDIVIDUAL SEARCH ENGINES LIKE MIVA AND GOOGLE ADS LISTINGS!!! Worthless program. It opens up pages in my AOL software browser, which I never use and hate. The search program has NO options at all. You get what you get.
