The program converts file types such as DOC, RTF, and HTML into the popular XML format. In W2XML, you can drop individual files or entire folders into the interface, then press Go. The conversion takes seconds, placing files into a My XML Files folder by default. All the conversion information you need appears at the bottom of the program window, including a link to the output folder and easy access to options. You can set all sorts of options, such as unchecking the box that discards the intermediate HTML page the program creates on its way to XML. We'd like more of an explanation as to what happens when you save the workplace. Clicking on Help launches a browser window. Running a conversion launches a pop-up ad for the publisher's other products. The program should either skip unusable files (such as plain text) or allow the user to remove them all at once. Also, and perhaps this is a trial limitation, the program only converted two of the files in a folder we dropped into the interface. Business users who need to convert many files into XML may appreciate W2XML's speed and ease of use.Publisher's description
From DocSoft :DocSoft W2XML is a Word-to-XML program that converts DOC, RTF, HTML, ASP, and JSP files to XML. It also converts MS Equation objects to MathML. It is completely scalable and allows for custom XML exporting through custom XSLTs you can use to modify the standard output. The software comes with an XSLT that will convert most Word documents to the popular Docbook XML format.
Version 2.5 allows MS Equation object to remain if the "Remove IE Hide/Show tags" option is set and the "Convert Equation objects to MathML" option is set.

Version: W2XML 2.5
"If you know XSLT, this is the program for you"
Pros: If you know XSLT pretty well and understand the XHTML that it exports, then you can convert the XML to whatever Schema you want. I had to study the dcobook.xslt that comes with the software, and with help from the company's forums (great help, I might add), I was able to convert all of our Word documents to a special XML that is used within my company.
Cons: Trial doesn't last long enough for you to create custom XSLTs and test for your needs.

Version: W2XML 2.5
Pros: We needed to batch convert literally thousands of our Word documents to a new company schema. Amazingly, we were able to export 99% of our docs to this new schema by modifying the docbook XSL supplied with this software. Since then, we created a new XSLT that we use for new documents that allows us to get 100% conversion accuracy.
Cons: I have to agree that you must have at least some XSL experience or knowledge to get the XML you want.
