This company is NOT transparent!!!
Volusion Services and Merchant Agreements are NOT NOT NOT transparent at all!! The Volusion website does NOT make it clear that one will be dealing with 2 separate companies and charged by both!
Besides hosting fees, there is not ANY mention of extra monthly fees on Volusion's advertisement webpages--and this is not mentioned when you call either. After being shocked at my bill, I looked through Volusion webpages to be sure I hadn't missed something. I first reviewed the following message at the following link: http://www.volusion.com/ecommerce-credit-card-processing: "No setup fees: No application, annual or setup fees, no leasing charges on retail equipment." Also, in this second ecommerce link, http://www.volusion.com/ecommerce-credit-card-processing-comparison, there is NO mention of any fees beyond a 2.17% transaction fee neither on the comparison chart nor the FAQs. Volusion's web pages are clearly misleading.
Soon after, I looked up my Merchant Agreement. I recall that I had been contacted by ********* of Merchant Services/Authorize.net who said that we should hurry to get my site up and running. I spoke to ******* several times, even as I signed the document because I had sought help understanding the text; after being informed that I would incur fees only if transactions had occurred, ********* quickly pointed out the lines where I should place my initials. Again, there was never any mention of monthly fees—only the 2.17% discounted transaction fee. Further, when reading the contract, under the repeated mention of 2.17%, there is an entire paragraph regarding the "payment type which qualifies the merchant for the most favorable interchange rates..."; the paragraph's final line states that "In addition to the per item fee, all Debit transactions include fees assessed by the applicable network organization"; the information is not directly related and should be placed elsewhere in the contract. Because the mention of "Other Fees" is placed after the above line, it leads one to believe that any "Other Fees" would be the result of "Debit transactions" rather than any general Merchant Account monthly fees incurred through credit cards. As you can see, this information was misrepresentative as well.
When speaking to the company, no one cares. They will listen to your complaints about transparency and deception and tell you--as one representative told me--that "hindsight is 20/20"; then they will add a $99 termination fee to your account and send it to collections which can be paid by money order only.
This company is NOT transparent, and the fact that its employees have no problem being so deceptive is disturbing. Do yourself a favor and go get a cheaper and cuter website...you're going to have to build your own traffic anyway!
There is NONE once you realize everything Volusion said was a blatant lie and only said to make the sale. They are not capable of doing a lot of functions that are STANDARD on many other platforms. They are cheaper than BigCommerce, Shopify and Magento, but cheaper is NOT better, it is simply CHEAP in the worst sense of the word.
Volusion lied and said their platform was capable of performing specific things I showed them our current site could. They lied about much of the basic functionality being standard as well,when in fact we would have to spend thousands just to get what they claimed they could do done on our site.
Volusion let us find and hire companies to perform website updates that they lied and said were to be standard and then after several weeks were invested, as well as a lot of money, they decided to pull out of the agreement.
I contacted Volusion regarding migration of our website, walked them around our current WP based site, showed them how to use previewers we needed to migrate, all product option (there were many) and discussed in detail what was needed. I was told if I purchased today the migration would start immediately. Migration started a few days later, they initially said that everything, including previewers could be migrated over and that all product options would be handled by the migrations team. I provided everything needed in detail and was also told that the slider and additional category images could be added at no cost. The only catch, I need to splurge on a premium template. At first I was told to select one for $595 or more, then $895. I selected and purchased a template for $895. Then they wanted to charge me $495 for the sliders and $300 for addition of the two additional category images. I disagreed, but finally relented and agreed to a discounted rate. They still overcharged what they stated and forgot to mention the $495 only included really crappy basic sliders. They agreed to refund for the slider since I could create a better one in my sleep, but they never did. Then the real issues started. They could not transfer my previewers and I was told to find a company that could build them for me or find software that was compatible with their platform. Hardly anyone wanted to touch the Volusion platform and kept recommending Magento. I finally found and made an agreement for several hundred bucks a month and a profit share (3% of all sales using previewers) with a company to do the custom previewers. This did not include the custom design setup required to get the templates ready for the new platform or anything- that was an addition $900+ just to get the first two and we have about 25. Then the issue with the available options Volusion has arose. Volusion is so basic that it wouldn't allow me to even create a pricing variation and make a specific color for a product only available on certain sizes. We were initially told they could. Also, we asked if Volusion was capable of making automatic price changes (dynamic) based on options selected and we were told "yes". However, this was also a lie. We actually ended up needing to search for a custom programmer who not only would be willing to work on the very basic platform Volusion is, but also custom code these options. The cost to this, nearly $2500. After we spent between 3-4 weeks getting shipping set up, products in and waiting on Volusion to complete their end of the deal and all the while having to do the legwork in finding several outside companies to do what Volusion said their software could do out of the box, Volusion decides it is too much work for them and they are no longer willing to adhere to the agreement they made. They wasted nearly a month of my time after leaving me to find workarounds for their inept platform. I highly suggest looking elsewhere than Volusion if you are looking for an ecommerce platform that is capable of truly growing with you and working for anything other than an extremely basic website. Volusion not only misrepresented their company and their platforms ability, but they also defamed BigCommerce by stating that I should not go with BigCommerce because they don't have nearly the features or ability because "BigCommerce has not been around nearly as long. BigCommerce is like that annoying little brother that copies everything you do", stating they have all the features and then some. This was a lie because after checking in with BigCommerce, we found BigCommerce has tons more features out of the box without need for custom coding that Volusion lacked. I would recommend BigCommerce over Volusion any day since not only is BigCommerce a fair enough company not to put Volusion down as Volusion did to them, but their features are ALL there and from what I see so far, they do not lie like Volusion seems to constantly do. Please comment if you have had similar issues with Volusion as we are trying to see if this is a repetitive issue with Volusion and we have consulted with a legal firm.
None that I can think of. I guess at $15 a month it could be more expensive.

Lots of hidden costs (SSL certicicate, SEO, merchant account, ect)
I signed up for Volusion because of the great ranking they got on toptenreviews.com. After dealing with Volusion for a year, I wonder if they didn't buy that ranking. When I signed up, they recommended I start with the Gold (now Pro) account for $99 per month that gave me a "dedicated account specialist committed to my success." What I got was one 1-hour phone conversation to help me learn the complicated Volusion software. And half the phone call was spent setting up an ftp account so I could add pictures to my website, since I wanted to do "creative" layouts, ie something different from what the template allowed. I ended up with 3 different Volusion usernames and passwords. The layout of their site is super-unintuitive, so it's really hard to find where things are located. Then once they get me singed up as a customer, they tried and sell me more and more stuff. Once I had a volusion account, I started getting monthly calls for SEO services (which were NOT cheap), even though my website wasn't even online yet. It seemed clear to me that their only concern was making as much money off me as possible, and they didn't care if my site succeeded or failed. And my "dedicated account specialist"? I never heard from him again. When I wanted to downgrade to a cheaper account, I called them, sat on hold forever, before I was told I needed to do it online. Filled out the request on-line to downgrade my account, and guess what? Next month I was charged at the significantly higher rate of my old account. So I called Volusion again, sat on hold forever, so I could get refunded the amount the overcharged me. Their mistake, my problem. I just cancelled my account, and they got an extra month of billing on me, because I'm not allowed phone support anymore (because I have the cheap plan), so my initial attempt to cancel my account failed (my ticket that said "Hi, I would like to cancel my account with Volusion for XXX, effective immediately" apparently wasn't clear enough for them). I didn't find out my account hadn't been closed until I was billed again the next month. I called, sat on hold for 45 minutes, before being told that my account closing wasn't complete, because I needed to go to another link and fill out a survey. Save yourself the time, money, and headaches and just stay away. Or sign up and find out for yourself.
I have been a volusion gold member for 8 years. Never had a long wait time online or over the phone. When you get on the phone the people are helpful, caring, and will take all the time necessary to help you with any problems you are having. Having our own site through other servers years ago from scratch this site is by far the easiest to use. No HTML required to learn. Back end financials help me every year for taxes. Easy create new pages, products, etc. There easy tools make life very easy. Our site has never had a down day in 8 years. Get your own Genuine SSL certificate and very safe for my customers. Easy for customers to navigate. Has every option a business needs. The volusion team is very willing to listen to suggestions if other options are needed. I have suggested this to small and large companies. Many others I know use Volusion and we all love them! Great team of support & services!
People who may not have any understanding of how a website works may not be ready to just jump into a site like this. Even though it is very easy to work there is alot of options which may be overwhelming for people. Other sites are a "click & shoot" style set up. Volusion requires you to know what you want to do in the end. However if you know what you want the volusion team will be willing to help you get the service started and help you in the future. I think what happens for alot of new users honestly is that there is so much information at once given to them that they are not use to from there old site that they don't know what to do with the options or they start playing with things that are already set up in the system before they know what there doing.
Take time to read instructions! So many people zip past all the information Volusion makes for you to read. Take time. This isn't a race to the finish. If you want a good product it takes time to achieve. Building a website another way to build your website. Taking time out of your day to find the information you need to successfully accomplish your goal is a positive thing. Not a waste of time! I personally think the reviews on this page are completely by people who tried this service for less than a week and never bothered to learn what great service Volusion offers. I personally had a back ground of building an old style HTML site and was relieved to find this service. I've been on the phone with Volusion for about 8 hrs in 8 years. Every year when they do there updates I take the time to call them and pick there brains to find out what the new updates will allow and not allow me to do. They are always willing to help me and make sure I understand how to fully use there site.

I am so happy to get away from Volusion after far too long using them. I don't understand how they are still in business quite frankly. They will go down for a week at a time and just let you know "sorry, we're doing what we can." It's utterly inexcusable. Bad customer service, bad product, unreliable. I haven't ever done a review on a product like this, but felt compelled to warn people to go with another option.
NO, sorry, really can't think of anything. I gave them $50 and i'm glad I didn't move my e-store to their server.
I'm so regret that I didn't read these comment earlier before I used this bad service.
Their customer service staffs gave me really bad impression.
1) First time I contact their staff, he/she told me volusion will NEVER provide domain privacy to customer's info even with that price we paid.
2) Customer service pick up time is very slow, long wait time.
3) Customer service are very unfriendly and no help, they sound like working at home watching TV while doing work.

Volusion provides you the ability to purchase an SSL Certificate. That is the only thing I can think you are talking about here. SSL Certificates are always individually purchased every year on any e-commerce domain. I would never purchase any SSL certificate that wasn't.
None, absolutely none.
Volusion offers a trial period, during which they will phone you over and over to sell you a package. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS! They did it to me---the package gave me A WHOLE HOUR of website building support for $50.00, and supposedly you could downgrade your package at the end of the thirty days. Once you get on Volusion, their website builder is so diffcult to use (to sell you someone to build it for you) that it is impossible to use. I cancelled it immediately, and on went the phone calls.
Use Big Commerce---their templates have a very small learning curve, mostly point and click, and they are free unless you decide to have a pro build it for you. Very helpful, and fair rates. That's where my website is!

Big commerce doesn't let you highlight products on home pages for specific time periods. Volusion design lets you display products for a limited time & special price & increase revenue. Volusion has free live chat for communication with buyers. Big Commerce doesn't. Volusion lets you track sales, ad campaigns, newsletters & affiliates; & track campaigns, & history. Big Commerce doesn't. Volusion lets you reward customers based on spending, or buying certain products. Customers build points, & use them to buy products, which makes them come back. Big Commerce doesn't have this. Volusion has multi-lingual capabilities. Big Commerce doesn't. Volusion has 24x7 support, server security & data backup is automatic. Big Commerce requires you to handle server security & backup. It's important to compare features, flexibility & value & make the right decision.

Too long of wait time for support help. Volusion does not due what they say they will. Not the easy to use - other companies much easier
Had problem downloading pictures to my store front. After trying different computers and following Volusion support's instructions still couldn't download pictures. Volusions solution: Nothing - when I asked for a refund since I can't use service I was ignored. Volusion says there is no problem but obviously there is. Stay away - save your money - transferred to Bigcommerce and have had no problems and their software is so much easier to use
Quickbooks simply does not work. They will charge you for overages associated with the setup, they do not disclose these charges and they do NOT offer phone support for the billing department for when they overcharge you. I had to go to my credit card company because of how difficult it is to speak with someone about billing problems.
When a company says "email only" in a department they are basically saying they dont want to help, they want you to go away and forget about what you owe.
I have spent almost 20 hours on hold to discuss an unjust charge and now they are offering me a small percentage of the fee off. I still owe $150+ for absolutely nothing! My website is shut off and my company is suffering greatly.
There are several different companies available that offer this service. I suggest finding one that does not hide their billing department behind an "Email Only" curtain. Save yourself some heartache.

I still can't figure out how to customize mt template... one of the most user un-friendly programs I've ever used!
