From Susels:

VE-Disk is a small, compact program for creating encrypted virtual disks. It helps you keep your sensitive and vulnerable data and documents, or anything else you may consider private, secure from unauthorized access. With VE-Disk, you can create new virtual disk (partition), put your files there (types of files don t matter, only size should be considered), work with your files, dismount the disk after using, and mount it again when necessary. The encrypted partition resides in a single file which is easy to backup to any media like CD, DVD, floppy disks, USB flash drives, all types of flash memory cards, and PDAs.

Version 1.1 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

  • Version reviewed: Virtual Encrypted Disk 1.1
Computer security can often present a cost in time, requiring a complicated process to access and protect critical files. This utility helps protect sensitive information largely without disrupting normal work, by creating a virtual disk that can hide a group of important files, all of which can be unlocked at once with a single password. All ordinary Windows programs will see the virtual disk as just another hard drive, so files normally can be saved there and automatically protected. The encrypted disk is stored as a single file, which can easily be taken on a USB drive or memory card. Others can see the file, but can't even get the names of the files inside without the password. In our tests, the program didn't affect PC performance, but consumed a fairly large amount of memory (11MB). We would have liked a bit more information on what encryption algorithm was being used, but on the whole we would recommend this program to busy computer users who don't have the time or patience for more complicated encryption tools.
