With its sprawling yet slightly murky 3D universe, Vector Mirage lets you play the role of a lone space fighter in an interstellar alien war. A behind-the-ship perspective and configurable controls add up to an easy-to-learn title that provides intense arcade action in mere minutes. However, an unsophisticated interface and slightly choppy graphics result in a game that lacks polish and individuality. The demo consists of one mission: you command the StarBlade OmniFighter in a battle against alien forces that are trying to destroy two of your bases. Your arsenal includes a standard laser, a Homing Light Weapon, and a special weapon. The Beam Pod, which automatically targets any aliens in its vicinity, is the only special weapon available in the demo.
Since the 3D movement involves lots of diagonal turns and strafing, an analog game controller works much better than keyboard arrow keys. Unfortunately, the demo won t save any custom control configurations. The interface is outdated, commanded by the mouse only, and cumbersome to navigate. Vector Mirage lets any armchair commander easily binge on blasting action, but it needs more of an identifiable edge to bring us back for second helpings.
