Publisher's Description
From Equinux:
VPN Tracker is the premier VPN client for Mac OS X, allowing safe data transfer between your Mac and your remote networks. VPN Tracker 6 brings the workflow of the mobile user to the foreground. The starting point is the "Secure Desktop". Here users' documents, Internet addresses, applications and scripts can all be easily organized giving VPN users the direct access they need most. Every item in the Secure Desktop can be completely configured and linked to any one of the users VPN connections. Administrators and consultants can easily create multiple Secure Desktops which can also be pre-configured and exported to specific users. Along with IPsec-based connections, VPN Tracker can also integrate any existing L2TP and PPTP-based VPN connection in the same user interface.
What's new in this version:
- Added a workaround for an issue in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion that prevents a remote DNS server from being set for all domains.
- If you received a pre-release version from our support team, you can safely update to this version. If you modified your remote DNS settings to work around the issue, you should be able to return to your previous remote DNS setup with this version.
- Fixed a bug that could cause DNS search domains to be ignored with Cisco EasyVPN.

"Impossible licensing - and didn't work well with..."
Version: VPN Tracker 5.3
Summary
...Zyxel router
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
We have 3 copies of this software for my office, and I'm looking for a replacement. Give yourself an hour to just deal with licensing stupidity when setting up this software... to make matters worse today one of my users just had it "stop working" with a message saying their license has expired (huh?).
Since one of my employees originally registered the product, just the process of looking up the username and password took 15 minutes, and 3 separate forms and emails from Equinox.
Why do they have to be so friggin clever with logins, they need to just use a serial number like every other software package out there?
We had some problems with our Zyxel router, which is now fixed with the latest version of VPN tracker, but we lost hours, and a few hundred dollars on a consultant working around these issues. This is much less of an issue than how hard it is to use.
Pricing is fair for what I need it to do. -
"Works great !"
Version: VPN Tracker 4.9.3
Summary

I use the Professional version multiple times a day for multiple connections together and it works great. It connects without hassle and makes me able to remotely manage multiple servers with ARD. Only one thing is annoying me : it breaks the connection if your laptop fells asleep which happens very fast if you work on battery. But it is no critic, it seems logical to me. Maybe in a future version VPN Tracker can force the computer to stay awake ? -
"Works, but far too expensive and no support"
Version: VPN Tracker 4.8
Summary

I have to use VPN Tracker because Cisco's OS X Client crashes when connecting to our corporate VPN. VPN Tracker supports XAUTH and NAT traversal and is the only client I could get to work with our VPN.
The 200 â?¬ price tag is ridiculous, however, given that most of this app is just a gui for some open source projects and the interface is not very comfortable (no menu bar item etc.)
I tried to automate some setting changes in OS X and my email client, but none of the AppleScript behaviours that are mentioned in the manual actually work. The application's own scripting support is very limited and buggy as well. I sent a message to support to get help with that, but they didn't even bother to answer. -
"VPN Tracker and the support is excellent"
Version: VPN Tracker 4.8
Summary

I have a CISCO 800 series router for my home network. VPN Tracker is the only solution I know of that allows me to access my home network while I'm travelling in airports and road stops and sitting the back of taxi cabs using my mobile phone to get to my home network. The CISCO VPN client works well if I have access to an ethernet port (wired or wireless). However, the CISCO VPN client will not do a VPN connection via Bluetooth to a mobile phone used as a modem to the internet using GPRS. But VPN Tracker does understand both ethernet ports and the Bluetooth port. With version 4.8 you can have a minimal "easy VPN" configuration set up in the CISCO router and use VPN Tracker on your MacBook to get to your remote network securely.
The company worked with me for over 2 weeks to resolve one problem that was stopping VPN Tracker from working in my setup. It took a little work to get the right dumps and settings to them, but they stuck with me and released version 4.8 that solved the connection problem.
I, personally, think the price they charge for a VPN client, the much better documentation than that provided by CISCO, and the support, is well worth the price.
If you are a travelling "road warrior" and need the most robust VPN client to get back to your home or corporate network, the VPN Tracker is the way to go. -
"OK product, terrible developer"
Version: VPN Tracker 4.6.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This product seems to work pretty much as advertised most of the time -- but beware if you have trouble, because the developers have a pretty odd idea of customer service:
1. It's expensive for what it offers -- at $90 for the base version it's far more than most full-blown apps.
2. After you purchase, you have to go through a convoluted registration process to get the software running, and need to repeat this (including sending a begging email) if you need to move the software to a new computer.
3. The sign-up process for the VPN Tracker mail list is broken ont he web site, so if you do need help you cannot get it anywhere.
Overall, the impression is of a company that is more concerned with getting money out of you than with providing a high value service to the sucker (oops, I meant customer). -
"Only VPN Solution to work on my Quad G5"
Version: VPN Tracker 4.5.2
Summary

Couldn't get Cisco's own VPN service for Macs to work on my G5 Quad. VPN Tracker has been more stable and reliable than Cisco's ever was. -
"Too Expensive."
Version: VPN Tracker 4.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This application does what it advertises, but at a price that is at least 100% too expensive. They want me to pay $90 for a 1 user personal client - when the VPN solution that I am connecting to cost $150 for *everyone else in my small busines combined*. Thats right, I am the only Mac user and they want me to pay more than half of my entire company's (23 people) cost for VPN access....
This product should be $39 for the personal version.
In fact, IPSecuritas does everything VPNTracker does except XAUTH and is FREE!
Unfortunately, I need XAUTH so I am either stuck with expensive VPNTracker or no VPN at all.
But the demo version worked well... Since it is too expensive I get around it by using a hodge podge of SSH, SFTP, and the like.... Not the most elegant, but much cheaper. If the product were $39 it would be a good value and I would buy it. -
"Very reliable and easy to configure"
Version: VPN Tracker 4.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Tried IPsecuritas first to connect to my SonicWALL VPN firewall but had to realize that IPSecuritas doesn't support login/password authentication.
Using VPN Tracker I was able to setup the connection to our SonicWALL in <10 minutes. I also tried the DHCP IP assignment feature which enormously simplifies the rollout of our 10-user VPN network since I can use the same configuration file for all users.
Sure, this product isn't free. However I think it's well worth the money considering the quick and easy installation. -
"Great - if you have access to the corporate VPN..."

This is the only client that had a hope of working with our company's CheckPoint firewall, and after sufficient tweaking and cajoling of the VPN manager to make some concessions for the Mac user, it worked as well as could be expected in a Windows environment. VPN Tracked is not able to use (and probably never will be able to due to the nature of The Beast) many of the Windows-only extensions that CheckPoint added to their implementation of IPSEC like synching user passwords to the Windows domain.
I am now trying to get it to work with our new Symantec Enterprise VPN.
