It's no secret that Twitter is a haven for music lovers and the artists they love. Many of the top followed accounts on Twitter are owned by musicians like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and Muse. With millions of followers, constant interaction among and with fans, and a big catalog of music ripe for promotion, it's no surprise that Twitter has decided to leverage all of it with a new app, Twiiter Music, designed solely for music.
The Twitter Music app is designed to integrate with your iPhone, existing Twitter account, and iTunes account so you can follow popular artists, see who others are talking about, listen to new tracks from those artists, and either download them or listen to them (if you have a service like Spotify). When you first open Twitter Music you are shown some of the most popular current artists. Tap any tile to listen to a track (either in full if you have a third-party service or the sample from iTunes if you don't), or follow that artist. You can then either visit that artist's feed to read more or you can see what other users are currently listening to with the app. There are also suggested artists once you've used the app enough.
Twitter Music is a perfect combination of technologies--features that people enjoy using in tandem, already. While the sharing and playing options are still limited and an iPad app is likely still in the works, the iPhone app does a great job of curating the popular music subculture on Twitter for easy access on your phone.
