Always on option stops the clock from dimming and powering off when you wish to use it as a desk-clock. Sleep on flat surface option allows the iPhone to turn itself off automatically after while when left laying on a flat surface. You can set a time for the clock to go to sleep, and it will fade itself to dim at that time. Along with the Powersleep option, you can wake up to gentle birdsong a few minutes before the proper alarm.
