ThumbsPlus makes it easy to find and maintain graphics, clip art, fonts, and animation files. By displaying a thumbnail of each file, ThumbsPlus lets you browse, view, edit, and crop images quickly and easily. The program will also let you launch external editors, copy images to the Clipboard, drag and drop graphics files among directories, create a slide show from selected graphics, install BMP files as Windows wallpaper, and use DDE commands to control ThumbsPlus from other programs. ThumbsPlus supports a variety of file formats, including Microsoft Image Composer (MIC), PNG, Silicon Graphics (RGB), Seattle Filmworks (SFW), and Minolta RD-175 (MDC).
What's new in this version: Version 8.0 Build 3537 has fixed several status bar issues in the view window.

"This use to be an awesome program, but now watch out!"

Works well if you have no technical issues or are not upgrading your database from an earlier version of Thumbs.

Used this product for many years before other companies like Adobe came out with similar products so I kept upgrading it from version 4 now to 8. When updating my database from previous version 7 you need to have the program modify the database to work with the new format of version 8. Well this took a bit of time but when done the database failed to open after many tried and backups. Attempted to contact customer service about the issue via phone and was transferred to an answering machine a few days after not hearing back from them I called again and was put on hold for 20 minutes until disconnected. I later submitted a trouble ticket on their support site that has gone answered for a week now! Bottom line this product works well version 7 and earlier but trying to get your old database to work in the new version is useless as well as their tech support.. I would suggest you find another program!

I used the earlier versions of this software a lot, and had paid for registered version. Then it stopped performing and as I had NO RESPONSE from service dept, tried new version. Again NO RESPONSE to subsequent queries raised.
Wow, just read other reviews and realised everyone is having the same problems!
Now I have no confidence in this company for taking care of my photographs - who knows what might go wrong, and how to get help when it does!

"Used to be a great software"

Best image management system bar none...out of the box.
Cons
Cerious Tech support is a cruel joke. They don't respond to any emails and their web page directs you to newsgroups that no longer exist. When people have managed to get through to complain they give ridiculous excuses that are simply lies.
Summary
As long as it works for you out of the box, its great. If you need ANY form of support you are out of luck.

"Reasonably good software"

Does a good job of managing photos. Good duplicate/similar finder
Cons
Customer service non-existent. No support. Cerious has shutdown their support forums, doesn't return calls, doesn't answer emails. Bug reports get closed without explanation.
Summary
I have used this software for 10+ years. Originally was very good. Support was always somewhat difficult, but the user forums were excellent and problems would get resolved by other users. Current version has some bugs, but no response from the company. User forums are no longer accesible - I assume they have shut down their newsgroups. I paid for upgrade to V8, but am going to dump it ASAP and go to other software.

"Best photo organiser for my use"

Pros
Works reliably and fast with large image collections. I has a very good EXIF and IPTC editor and full colour management support. Works equally well with directory based and tag based image storage. Integrates well with photoshop and other programs.
Cons
Does not appear to take advantage of multiple CPU (cores) or GPU hardware accelration.
Summary
I have used Thumbnails Plus since 1999 when version 4 was released. Over the years it has been used to manage my collection of 12000+ photos without any problems. Although there are other photo organisers getting close I have not found any that fulfill my needs as well. In particular the strong editing features of EXIF and IPTC meta data is important for me.

"Continuous program prevention of startup."

Did not work correctly from installation - NO Pros.
Cons
Since the developer can not offer any helpful suggestions on how to correct this problem, stating 'it is a software issue' - I can not use the program to determine if it is worthwhile.
Summary
TRASH. 'Database error' at installation. Developer suggested reinstall - same issue. The 'Thumbs Plus Error Messages' suggestion in 'HELP" states I should do a 'File/Database/Repair' from the programs Main Menu - BUT SINCE THE 'Database Error' prevents the program from starting I CAN NOT ACCESS THE MAIN MENU !!!

"Good Image Organizing & Editing For Beginner ~ Expert."

Fairly robust thumbnail & file manager, with good entry-level photo editing. Easy enough for our most computer-illiterate users (which is 90% of our office), but with enough features that us graphic artists use it for quick corrections and changes.
Cons
Limited PDF and vector AI / EPS support.
Summary
In our office, most of our employees are VERY computer-illiterate, so easy-to-use software is important. ThumbsPlus has made sorting, viewing, scanning, adjusting and printing images very easy for our beginner & novice users. ThumbsPlus has enough features that even our graphic arts team regularly use it for small tasks, that don't require opening Photoshop. It's also good for mass-edits, edit IPTC info, automatic thumbnail generation for webpages, contact sheets and automatic web gallery generation. We've also gotten timely support from Cerious Software, regarding a plugin. ThumbsPlus was definitely worth the price of registration, for our business.

This program is like virtual dynamite: it catalogs your photos (making it easy to find duplicates), resizes them all with one click, let's you add keywords to photos..and so on and so on...too many features to list! WELL WORTH YOUR TIME TO DOWNLOAD...you'll end up buying it! :D

"Still my main photo app but falling behind"

I've been using this for years, since version 2 or 3. Until a few years ago I used to swear by it. It was the only software that would natively read my camera's format (a Kodak DC50), it also had the best overall thumbnailing and "global" image processing functionality at the time. Version 7 continues to work quite well, probably still my main viewing and basic processing (corrections) suite, some of the image editing functions I can't live without.
Cons
But it's gone downhill, my opinion switched when they refused to acknowledge a bug report and even appear to have deleted my requests from their usenet server forum. Unfortunately probably the most important image processing function - image resampling (resizing) - is broken, despite incorporating an image processing library which I know works perfectly. Colour management also too buggy (but can be switched off). Over the years the app has become bloated sure, but not as much as a lot of other software. The keyword system has really lost its shine compared to apps like Picasa, for example it's all stored in with thumbnails data resulting is a massive file to backup. TP used to be one of my favourite apps, I never thought I'd see the day when I would write a review like this, but I am. Picasa and Irfanview are slowly taking its place in my world.

"Software is dated and buggy - Company sucks!"

Too hard to use, buggy as hell, no updates, company does not respond to emails ... also, I have it from a good source that Cerious Software is in serious financial trouble. They have laid off all their staff and only 2 remain.
