CNET Editors' review
VPNs, or Virtual Private Networks, allow unmatched levels of remote control and collaboration, such as taking complete control of another PC and viewing its desktop from your own PC, whether the two are next to each other or a world apart. TeamViewer is an easy-to-use VPN tool that's free for personal use. There's no tunneling and there are no proxies to configure: just install TeamViewer on two PCs, enter the provided information in the control PC, and the program does the rest. We saved TeamViewer Portable to a USB stick and ran it on two Windows 7 PCs, one a 32-bit version and the other 64-bit.
We started TeamViewer Portable on each PC. The simple interface looks more like a sign-on dialog than a GUI, and it is, more or less, though it has two tabs, Remote Control and Meeting, plus a menu bar for managing Connections, accessing Extras, and opening the extensive Web-based Help resources.
The main tab, Remote Control, is divided horizontally between sections labeled Allow Remote Control and Control Remote Computer. That's clear enough, but TeamViewer makes things even clearer by displaying Your ID and Password (simple number combinations) on the Allow side and an entry field on the Control side, with an option to enable either Remote Control or just File Transfer. To connect, simply enter one machine's data on the other and press Connect to Partner. It's best to let one PC take control of another and not enable two-way control or you'll get that mirror-in-mirror effect. The Meeting tool is similar, except it involves sending invitations to multiple partners, each of which must be running TeamViewer.
Anyone who can type in a set of numbers and press a button can take complete control of another PC with TeamViewer Portable, and we mean complete: cursor, keyboard, files, and so on. It's not just for business teams; if you regularly provide "tech support" to some less-than-experienced users (your family, for instance) then give them TeamViewer Portable so the next time they need help, you can skip the phone tag and just fix it yourself from home.
TeamViewer Portable is a solution for remote control, desktop sharing, and file transfer that works behind any firewall and NAT proxy. To connect to another computer just run TeamViewer on both machines without the need of an installation procedure. With the first start automatic partner IDs are generated on both computers. Enter your partner's ID into TeamViewer and the connection is established immediately.
TeamViewer Portable can be run directly from a USB stick or a CD.

Version: TeamViewer Portable 7.0.14563
Installed quickly, opens smoothly. Complete control of the other computer. I like the fact that you can copy from the distant computer and paste into the home computer.
Not many. Perhaps the little pop up at the end of the session thanking me for playing fair and not using it for commercial use and suggesting that I buy the commercial version is a little annoying, but nothing is free and they need to pay the bills, so I can't complain.
I use it to help my (alas) computer illiterate but beloved secretary untangle herself from digital black holes she mysteriously falls into. It's great. I also have an old XP at home that I leave on all the time that I tap into with TeamViewer. It has several old programs on it that will not upgrade to newer versions of Windows, so I can open them and run them with Team Viewer on my office, just like I'm sitting at home in front of my computer. This is a great program.
"Muy buen programa"
Version: TeamViewer Portable 7.0.14484
Facilidad para introducir informacion. Buenas opciones de reportes.
Poca flexibilidad para crear informes especiales.
"Access another computer easily"
Version: TeamViewer Portable 7.0.12799
Easy to use connection, server remembers ID numbers accessed previously. Free version does not seem to have many restrictions.
Also provides a sense of security with a random password to access a system, so both sides need to communicate to establish a connection.
Might be a way around it for unattended use, but I haven't needed to investigate that.
Nag screens at closing can confuse grandma on the other end. File transfer is very fast, but that could be my Internet upload speed -- not sure which yet. Also, when working together with the remote user, the screen real estate can be slightly different on larger res screens (over 1024). Neither person notices until you are both trying to read the same content -- that could be off screen for one.
If you have family that calls for help, this is a great way to just connect to their system and solve their problems. No more explaining how to click on xxx and right click from left click. On the cons, I meant to say file transfer is NOT very fast -- but that could be my Internet upload speed. Don't get me wrong, its a nice to have feature -- just a bit slow.
Saves me a ton of time.

"DONT BUY THIS SOFTWARE"
Version: TeamViewer Portable 7.0.12799
none this company is a scam and will stop at nothing to get you on the hook and keep charging you over and over again.
This company will attempt to extort more money from you. Dont make the same mistake i made by buying this software... go anywhere else but here.
Dont buy this software they will charge you and then not allow you to user tour software unless u pay them more money. I paid for version 6 and they auto pushed TV7 to my computers through updates,, then told me i had to pay another $800 to use the software. I told them i didn't want V7 i just want to use V6 the one i paid for and they refused. Dont buy this software they will block your computers and extort more money from you.
"Easy and flexible to use for remote support"
Version: TeamViewer Portable 7.0.12541
No remote installation needed - just download and use
Chat and video support is a little difficult to use
"Not a bad program, it does what it says it can do."
Version: TeamViewer Portable 7.0.12313
Simple to use, with an option to register or to use it without registration.
Useless if you are not a paying subscriber.
Continuously disconnected me within a minute or so, with annoying pop-ups to buy subscription or service.
I would not rely on this program if I am not using the paid service.
I think it would be nice to allow at least 15 minutes for non-commercial, home use.
I was trying to assist a friend (in another town), and the first time the connection lasted about 5 minutes or less, then subsequent connections were terminated at much shorter times (about a minute roughly, then about 30 seconds), with the annoying, nagging message to "Buy" the service.
I have found better products and alternatives for home, non-commercial use, without interruptions.
Use your favorite search engine and you will find a number of other products that would do a similar function.
For the above reasons (interruptions, short-time connections, nagging), I rate it very low, one star only.
I would think it's a different story for paid subscribers, but I can't justify paying for this service when I might not need it in years.
"Great Easy Program Self Explanitory, And No Bugs!"
Version: TeamViewer Portable 6.0.11117
Everything Is Great Alot Of Advantages If You Have To Go Out Of Town Or Away From Home.
No Bugs, Works Well With Any Computer I Have Tried It With, Thanks.
"Works for remote support"
Version: TeamViewer Portable 6.0.10722
Lets me see and work with a remote computer(mouse, keyboard). You need someone at the other end to get the codes to start it up -- not a con, just how it works. Its free, you can transfer files (slowly), its portable (so no installation needed).
File transfer is slow. When ending the session from the controlling side, the root team player on the other side does not end. I guess that cold be good if you need to get back in.
Decent program, works pretty well. Be advised the desktop background will be blanked while working.
Version: TeamViewer Portable 6.0.10722
A friend needed help and using this software allowed me to assist him without going through computer basic 101!!
none so far
Version: TeamViewer Portable 6.0.10462

If you help family members with their computer problems, this is an excellent tool.
