"Live channels from all over the world"
Version: TVUPlayer 2.5.3.1
Pros
I like TVU quite a lot. Being a professional linguist, I love to browse TV stations from all over the world. TVU makes this possible.
I can even record my favorite programs!
The service is available 24/24Cons
Sometimes you don't see your program because of connection problems.
The images are far from being perfect sometimes.Summary
All in all, IHO, TVU is one of the best live -TV players right now. Of course you will have to do a little housekeeping ( select your favorites), but after that you will have your personal cable TV ...without paying a single euro.
( If you want to record, it's possible...and cheap.) -
"Real CRAPWARE"
Version: TVUPlayer 2.5.3.1
Pros
None that I could find. I had used a previous version several years ago that worked well.
Cons
Keeps crapping out.
Channels are not consistent.
You can't record unless you subscribe for a fee.
Customer service is virtually non-existent!Summary
This is a totally unreliable piece of crapware. If you consult the TVU Forums, you will find so many people all having the same problems. Channels are here one day and gone the next. Some broadcasters take great pleasure in pausing the video portion or altering the audio portion making it impossible to enjoy the content. Forget it if you want to see any major USA network! It is a P2P so you may get throttling from your ISP or a hefty bill if you overrun your cap.
It may be free but certainly not worth the download or the aggravations. -

"For Chinese, some Indian stuff. P2P Software."
Version: TVUPlayer 2.5.3.1
Pros
* Good to have some news channels. We'd love FREE stuff too.
* Intuitive, and greatly improved channel selection
* Some good stuff. What Joost couldn't do TVU did it in a better wayCons
* P2P program. So your ISP may throttle affecting your video quality
* Other than live news channels, the rest of the programs are just repetitive (i.e. same movie forever)
* Resource intensive (you would feel on your laptop or old desktops)Summary
Basically it's a P2P (peer to peer) video software. So the content is stored in your harddisk and you'd become the source for other users.
The downside is your internet link will end up congested both downlink+uplink affecting other application performance.
If you are overseas where the channel broadcast is limited then perhaps this is a must for you. If you have other options then go for it.
e.g. in South east asia, not many indian channels are broadcasted
