Very easy to set up and use, and very quick to execute.

This software is easy to install, configure and use, with totally intuitive screens. It runs very quickly and without hammering my PC. It was also very reasonably priced.

    "OK for backups, forget versioning"

    February 21, 2010  |   By marcvg

    Version: SyncBackSE 5.8.7.23

    Pros

    OK for backups, but ...

    Cons

I wanted to use it for versioning, i.e. being able to go back to older versions of documents in case a mistake is made, or you need an older version of your document. but that function is hidden far away, for good reason.

    Summary

You must look really hard for the versioning function, and then it gets incredibly complicated to figure out the right settings to actually do it. Save your time and don't use it for versioning, it's OK for backups, synchronizing etc. It has so many options that it's easy to get lost, or make a little options error with very serious consequences. Tha fastest automated backup option is once a day, why could it not be every hour if you're boasting that you're really saving old versions of files??

"I've been using it for years & it gets better with age!"

    January 16, 2010  |   By mastrulo

    Version: SyncBackSE 5.8.7.23

    Pros

Incredibly easy it even has an easy mode. Or use expert mode, it has good quality speech like Start This. Back up X completed etc. I also love the of columns to display, and its miriad auto functions, By name, serial # of a USB Flash or Hard Disk!

    Cons

a couple of times it forgets its selected columns and displays all. Nothing much else really.

"Flexible enough to do all that I want."

    January 11, 2010  |   By DaveMSen

    Version: SyncBackSE 5.8.7.23

    Pros

Very flexible with lots of options.

    Cons

Using some of the advanced features, filters in particular, I find a bit convoluted. Also you have to check deletions as it sometimes wants to delete a new file rather than copy it. Also files with a .dat extension are always considered to clash

    Summary

I agree with another reviewer that the ability to hide and unhide group members would be useful.

    "Does almost all it promises"

    January 5, 2010  |   By rmassie

    Version: SyncBackSE 5.8.7.23

    Pros

Great for general backing up and synchronising directories between laptop and PC

    Cons

Does not synchronise to our archive which is one of those storage devices which are Linux based internally. When trying to synchronise we get a 'file not found' error.

    "Solid, simple, flexible"

    January 3, 2010  |   By SirChasm

    Version: SyncBackSE 5.8.7.23

    Pros

    Simple interface
    Solid performance
    Updated frequently

    Cons

With such a solid foundation I think SyncBack should go further and access file metadata (EXIF, ID3) for copying decisions.
I did once have it lock up (on Windows 7 64-bit), requiring a cold boot, but nothing was lost fortunately

    Summary

I have been using SyncBack for several years now- both for backup and synchronizing. In fact it works so well I sometimes use it just to do one-time, more-complicated copies.

"Tried lots of other options, this is the BEST by far!"

    December 30, 2009  |   By BrownCHiLD

    Version: SyncBackSE 5.8.7.23

    Pros

    Simply works!
Simple yet has tons of features!
    Low resource usage
    Versioning feature!
Easy to analyze HTML Based reports!
    Exportable sync settings (profiles)
a clearly well thought off software!

    Cons

Not really negative but more of wishes...
wish it showed the file sizes in the reports
wish there was a way to hide the profiles that are already shown in the groups (gets confusing sometimes)

    Summary

for days i have been seeking to replace my old, but very good backup app called Magic Backup, from moon software (stopped developing stuffs years ago)

I've used Magic Backup for over 5 years, it's really perfect, simple, fast, and reliable.. it lacks the bells and whistles but it was so simple.. and it gets the job done! .. but it's not been updated since i first used it haha.. and recently i was starting to crave for a little more features, and for stuffs it couldnt do that i was starting to need

    tried lots of sync/backup aps

Tried handy allway, afbackup, microsoft SyncToy etc etc etc

installed each, exploring each, and being very meticulous about each.... found lots of shortcomings from display / layout, to logging style, to ease of profile creation, etc etc.

When i stumbled upon syncback i thought it'd be just another app hopping it has less of the shortcomings that I found in everything else, less enough that I can bear it..

To my surprise, right from the install/get go i liked it already, the layout was simple but not ugly and very efficient/useful. as features for features, it has almost everything that i could want from it, w/ options being laid out nicely.. but even w/ all these features it still gave me that feeling of a simple easy to use software... and as i start to use it and explore i get impressed more and more.. i can really tell this is a well thought of app, that really centers on what features are needed and how they should be offered, and the whole usability as well.

The LOGS ARE AMAZING TOO! html based clear and laid out nicely w/ drill down links! very nice..

Monitored its resource consumption on start up, idle, load, and etc.. definitely not a resource hog!

only about 6-7mb on process, vs the handy backup agent @ 13mb!
(though i will not be keeping my backup soft active, I trigger my own backups manually)

Loving the PREVIEW Screen also!!! something that i really needed from my old backup app.

one of the most impressive features, that may be quite simple to a lot of people but very important to me is the CREATION of SHORTCUTS by dragging profile to desktop!!! it was so simple!

You see, the best thing i liked about the old Magic Backup, is i set the options, create/save that set to a file.. and that's it.. so when i need to run off already i just double click that backup set, the app launches and everything works.. fast, easy no hassle, no resident app in process list etc..

compared to having to locate the app, (wait for splash or loading time), locate the backup set i want to run, trigger it.. wait for things to finish then close the ap.. w/ Syncback shortcuts, it's easy like my old app!

The more i explore this app the more im impressed.. and i have to admit, i've yet to find any major short comings.. so far it's perfect.. (2nd day of use but 80% of all my required backup routines set and happy already)

So BIG KUDOS to the team behind 2BrightSparks!!! you guys ROCK!

    "Absolutely First Rate software"

    December 24, 2009  |   By fifty_rocks

    Version: SyncBackSE 5.8.6.1

    Pros

This is the most powerful, robust backup software I've ever used. I have multiple sites running it, moving many GBytes of data every day and it just performs flawlessly.

The company is also very receptive to enhancement requests.

    A+ software!

    Cons

This program has a fairly steep learning curve. You can do simple backups quite easily, but to do more complex things requires some time and learning.
