"Nice software that needs to avoid confusing end users"
Version: Subtitle Translation Assistant 1.0
Pros
Simple
Portable
Just download and run, no installation
Incredible easy to navigate the subtitle filesCons
Does not provide assistance for first time users regarding how to save the work (see the summary).
The lack of visibility of the previous and next segments in the translation is also an important missing feature. As any translator knows to properly translate a phrase one often needs the previous and following texts in the sequence to obtain context.Summary
Easy navigation, ready to run after downloading (some unzipping required) simple interface but with some annoyances.
The user needs to figure that in order to be able to save the work the program needs to open two files, the original subtitles in one file and the translated in another. This is counter-intuitive because once the original subtitles are open it is possible to start working right away just to find, after some work, that the "save translated" option does not function and may even crash the program!
If the user wants to save the work at that point the only option is to painfully copy all translations (one by one) into another program, figure out that the menu option "open translated" has to be used first to get a file ready for receiving the translations and then copy back the previous work. Not quite friendly at that point.
Once this annoyance has been solved the program works well.
