For such a small Firefox plug-in, StumbleUpon wears a lot of hats. Random Web site surfer, social networker, social bookmarker, site reviewer--it's a powerful little app for 170Kb.
Installing and removing it is just as simple as any other Firefox add-on, and we struck no snags when we used it with other plug-ins or programs. Once activated, one click is all it took to get going. The "Stumble!" logo that's part of the proprietary toolbar whips the user around the Net at the user's pace, based on categories selected during installation. Hundreds of topics are available and can be updated at will, with no selection limit.
Other StumbleUpon functions are just user-friendly. A click on the toolbar's "thumbs-up" and "thumbs-down" icons make ratings a cinch, and another click is all it takes to share sites, to update the friends list, to view the rated pages list, to read reviews of the page, to peruse the menu, or to search the StumbleUpon database.
Sometimes, "stumbling" would take us to a StumbleUpon page that reminded us to upload a profile image or some other annoying-but-trivial nonsense. Another "stumble" would whisk us to our next random Web page.
If Web surfing is the new channel surfing, then StumbleUpon should be your remote.

What's wrong outweighs what's right by 6,000 to 1.
Cons
StumbleUpon refuses to leave my computer. I have killed the program according to instructions, but it still gives me prompts sometimes when I try to call up Firefox and I can't get on the Web until I answer the stumbleupon prompt.
Summary
Any program that slows you down and won't go away when you want it to is malware. Stay away from it.

None. Compared to the old version which rightly deserves high marks, this version has no redeeming features.
Cons
Ability to add friends with common interests has been removed. Visual editing of your pages has been removed. Visitor counter is not accurate. Customization of pages has been limited to only a few basic tweaks. Overall feel is less intuitive.
Summary
The company says the new version (V4) is more social and user friendly but the exact opposite is true.

It is often difficult to find people with my aesthetic and tastes. StumbleUpon has a unique user interface that pinpoints fascinating content tailored for me
Cons
Nothing major to point out that's bad. The only glitch is that sometimes I am sent to sites that require some advanced plug-ins which I hadn't yet installed. Otherwise it was fine.
Summary
StumbleUpon has got it right. It's a great sight and I hope it goes far. Before discovering StumbeUpon, the majority of stuff I'd run into while surfing was so uninteresting to me that it felt like a waste of time. Sites that have the most hits from users or are considered more popular are usually very uninteresting to me. StumbleUpon guides me to 'stumble' into very interesting territory, while tracking what I like, taking me to places specifically tailored to me. The longer I stay on and vote at StumbleUpon, the more interesting the recommendations become. And the interface is very easy. I highly recommend StumbleUpon.
