    "Does not work on Vista"

    March 13, 2011   |   By telms

    Version: StationRipper 2.98.3

    Pros

Couldn't get it to work, so I have no positive experiences to report.

    Cons

Requires a version of MDAC compatible with Windows XP. Vista no longer uses MDAC, but Windows DAC.

    Summary

Don't try to run on Vista or Windows 7.

    "Worthless"

    June 17, 2007   |   By jpozenel

    Version: StationRipper 2.25a

    Pros

I don't like anything about the software.

    Cons

It looks like it would be easy to use, but it certainly isn't. Nothing is intuitive. The online help is worthless (it doesn't even look like it's describing the program that I downloaded.) Whoever developed this software wasn't thinking about the user. I'm sure it's all clear in their mind, but none of that clarity get communicated to the user. Sorry I think this is a piece of crap.

"Tons Of Free mp3s - LEGAL!!!"

    April 17, 2007   |   By Brian_Watters

    Version: StationRipper 2.25a

    Pros

First of all, this IS free. I've used it a ton (4,000 mp3s) for about one year, never paid (I don't know why it says you need to buy it-you don't). Download it from their website if you are asked to buy it here.

OK. Basically you search for music by genre/etc from a huge library of stations, pick up to 2 stations that sound good, and download the entire station. Leave this program on overnight. Some stations don't cut off the song ends properly... so find a station that does and stick to it. You can actually make the songs download extra material for the beginning/end to ensure you get the full song, but then you must manually cut the ends, which is time consuming.

As far as I know, this is the best legal way to get mp3s for free (maybe even the best, period). You can find popular songs, as well as rare songs.

    Cons

As discussed above, the songs don't always begin/end at the correct point.

I would recommend leaving it on a single station for about a week or two, to make sure you get ALL the songs from that station (it gets about 80% of the mp3s the first pass, another 80% the next pass, and so on. Do the math.)

It is difficult to search for a single song. Use this program to get a lot of songs, then keep the ones you like.

"if your appetite for music is insatiable"

    October 17, 2006   |   By martinw1200

    Version: StationRipper 2.25a

    Pros

You can rip song by song, or rip a station for x amount of time into a file. I put the songs or timed file on my mp3 player and listen wherever, whenever.

It's a great way to find music you want to buy or find out you don't want to buy something. Screening music, in other words.

If you rip, say, an hour of a radio station and listen to it on your portable player, you have portable commercial-free radio! Nice. (Or rip a bunch of hours. Just start the ripping and let it go.)

    Cons

Some petty stations screw with the signal and mess up the ripping, but these are few and you have thousands of stations to choose from.

    "Good program but beware!"

    August 02, 2005   |   By yesmate

    Version: StationRipper 1.13

    Pros

    Rips music from internet radio

    Cons

Very buggy, I had to remove this program from my pc but it slowed it way down. It would take 10 seconds for my web browser to open after installing station ripper. Stay away from this one.

"Easy to use, best freeware radio ripper"

    May 17, 2005   |   By uchihaz

    Version: StationRipper 1.13

    Pros

I have tested a lot of Radio rippers. The Shareware ones too. But out of these, Stationrippers was the best. It was easy to use and created a lot of Mp3 for me ^-^

    Cons

I wanted to update the station ripper. But somehow the Homepage was sucked. Now it works again.

"Excellent program...far better than others INCLUDING REPLAY RADIO"

    May 03, 2005   |   By mbricker

    Version: StationRipper 1.13

    Pros

Easy to use interface, completely replaces your need to download music illegally, doesn't put you at risk of the recording industry, good sound quality, great amount of songs downloaded automatically

    Cons

Must use shoutcast and shoutcast-type stations, no settings to help download web broadcasts that fail to have id3 tags, lacks ability to slice a certain amount of minutes of recording for those stations without id3 support
