Publisher's description of SmistaFiles
SmistaFiles is a smart utility used to automatically sort documents from a specified folder, in several different folders. The sort is based on the file extension, than you can specify where put files with zip, rar, doc, xls. The software can be used in three different manner: Manually, user can choose the original folder to sort, than specify all grouped extension and the destination folder for each group (i.e. zip, rar, dmg in the Zipped folder, xls, xlsx in ExcelDocs etc) and finally press Execute button to make the task. NOTE: Clicking the dont delete original documents check box, perform a copy command instead of a move. (then the documents are in the original folder and in new destinations folder); Automatically, program watch the original folder to sort than if there is a change perform the sort.
To use this mode user must specify the original folder to watch (i.e. C:\Download) than specify extension groups and destinations folder. Finally press Watchfolder button). This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

- "Unintuitive design"

This program is supposed to organize various files into separate folders based on their extensions. But thanks to vague directions and lack of help, we weren't impressed with what this program had to offer.
SmistaFiles has a bland and unintuitive user interface. All of the commands take place in one window, but with such vague directions, we weren't sure what was supposed to go where. The program doesn't include a Help file, so we had to learn through trial and error. We selected the destination folder that contained the files we wanted to organize. From there, we typed the types of extensions we wanted to sort, although check boxes would have been more helpful. We then had to create extension folders to put the files. The program doesn't let you create a new folder from its interface. Despite clicking what appeared to be a remove button, it also doesn't let you delete folders once you've added them. Also included, are two mode buttons--Auto and Manual--but clicking them didn't appear to do anything.
SmistaFiles is free, but that doesn't excuse its poor design. If you're looking for an easy way to organize files by their extension, we recommend that you look for a more capable program.
