Word processors work wonderfully, right up until the time you need to draw a diagram to illustrate your work. SmartDraw provides a handy shortcut for anyone in this situation, offering a plethora of diagram templates and art elements that eliminate the need to start from scratch.
A huge variety of possible uses has been included, from software engineering or business modeling to anatomical illustration. Generic templates include flowcharts, organizational charts, mind maps, family trees, ER diagrams, and far more. A clip-art collection helps fill out the basic templates, and a drag-and-drop tool lets users easily add frequently used symbol combinations. The program also functions as a standalone drawing tool, supporting free-hand drawing, image layers, text, and tables. Work can be saved in a number of formats including JPEG, PDF, HTML and AutoCAD Interchange.
As a fast illustration or business tool for someone who's not doing full-blown design work, we think this program functions extraordinarily well.

"Personal use only no viewer for sdr files"
Pros: Great flowcharting and general graphics program.
Cons: Do not share your sdr files with associates as there is no provided viewer. Google for smartdraw viewer will only lead you back to the vendor's site to download a trail; it is their marketing strategy.

"Don't bother with the trial version"
Pros: Easy to use, if you like it buy it. I won't because I only need a 1 off calendar and I don't like the, not quite truthfull "Free Trial" hook.
Cons: Trial version (use it for free so they say) prints with a "Trial Version" watermark making your document useless.
Summary: I understand they are protecting their work but don't call it a free trial. Call it a free play with an unusable end product which is what it is.

"Useless for technical drawing"
Pros: Simple interface; easy to construct diagrams quickly; easy to resize objects and alter drawings
Cons: Millimetre dimensions are not storeed accurately; zoom function makes it difficult to view long, thin objects
Summary: I wanted to use Smartdraw to design some acoustic enclosures I'm making. I'm using pieces of MDF which are around 9mm x 800mm in size. I can't use Smartdraw to model these: either the object dimensions are continually corrupted due to rounding error... read more >>

Pros: Easy to use. Lots of templates to get you started. Like the ability to add levels and dimensions on floor plans. Free Trail had so much more to offer than I expected. Watermark is only on the FREE TRIAL and was easy to remove from my pratice plans.
Cons: There is so much you can do with this program that it may take you awhile to learn all that it can do.
Summary: I am not a computer GEEK or a draftsman and I found this software easy to use, packed with options and well worth the price. I was able to design a floor plan for our cabin, place furniture, cabinets and appliances, and even play with color schemes ... read more >>

"A visual communication solution for everyone"
Pros: Easy to use, 1000s of templates, just click SmartPanel to add graphics- no experience required. Great integration with Microsoft Office.
Cons: There are a lot of capabilities in the product, and it can take time to learn about all of the diagram types that are available.
