In yet another coup for these folks who bring us SlidePad, now this has been snatched up by a new group and now they have taken another honestly good piece of software called MainMenu, slapped what amounts to no more than a cosmetic touch-up on it and are now charging $20 for something that was free and worked just fine. I don't know about anyone else, but this sort of thing just really feels slimy. No shame or remorse. Very disheartening. If you like MainMenu, stick with 1.0 because it's free. SlidePad on the other hand is a blatant rip-off of another very good piece of software called sideNote. Stick with sideNote.

But..ummm...actually (with this version) it's a lot better ? essentially a full-fledged word processor in a resizable slide-out window. Not only better, but worth paying for. (Though $20 is a bit steep.) And, as morepowerfulastronaut notes, there's no crime in similarity.

Basically it's just not cool to try to make money off of something that already exists and is free. While I won't use the word "stealing", I'll use the more PC phrase "re-purposing ownership." It isn't nice. I also suspect the next step could be to be to rename this and try again. We'll be watching.

SlidePad was on special on MacZOT; I was thinking of buying it, but checked Versiontracker. Glad I did. After trialling SlidePad, I have to agree with the reviewers who say use Sidenote instead... save yourself $20.
