Not only does Secunia Personal Software Inspector provide extensive details on the software installed on your computer, it also gives you direct links to update programs that are older and potentially not secure.
The interface mixes professional layout with a text-heavy, spartan design. At the top right of the program window, users can choose a Simple or Advanced layout. Under Simple, Secunia provides basic information about the installed program statuses, with a chart to gauge their security over time and a simplified listing of any errors. Clicking on an error leads you through the proprietary Easy-to-Patch program update process, which automatically excludes more challenging updates. The Advanced layout tab exposes more details and more updates. It also checks your Microsoft XML, your Adobe Flash player installation, and others programs, looking for mission-critical holes and their respective updates. Installed programs get flagged as Patched, End-of-Life, and Insecure, with the most recent reported threat noted with a colored bar and a mouse-over label on the right column.
Scanning can be slow, and occasionally the scan restarted for a second round automatically after completing its first pass. However, the update process was seamless, and once you update a program, it moves into the Patched list after about 5 minutes, because Secunia defaults to run in the background. The End-of-Life tab offers up a toolbox with quick access to Add/Remove Programs, the listed software's folder, and online references. Secunia's plain language for instructions and explanations enhances the already robust update package, making this a highly-recommended freeware.

Version: Secunia Personal Software Inspector 1.5.0.1
"Informed me of unknown security risks"
Pros: A number of commonly-used programs & software accumulated during 4 years I have had current PC (Java, Acrobat etc.) Scans showed me that not all previous versions had been deleted on previous updates, slowing system and exposing PC to security risks.
Cons: The Secunia Screen froze once or twice.
Summary: Easy to install and use (even the Advanced layout was relatively straightforward and provided direct links for downloading most recent versions). Regular, unobtrusive scan can be scheduled. So far, this is a good, free product.

Version: Secunia Personal Software Inspector 1.5.0.1
Pros: If there are any (which I believe, from other reviews), how can one get to appreciate them without running this software ?
Cons: This version of PSI freezes at star-up. It shows a message that it is checking the Net connexion, the progress bar starts moving then freezes (hence the summary ;-) ) after 1 or 2 seconds.
Summary: The install was tried on a desktop running WinXP SP3 (AMD Phenom II X 4 905E) with OnlineArmor, Avira and Prevx desactivated. Checking on Secunia PSI "Community" forum shows that this behaviour is known to them. Maybe a further release will run seam... read more >>

Version: Secunia Personal Software Inspector 1.5.0.1
"Avoid until a finished product is actually released."
Pros: None with all of the problems.
Cons: Listed in detail below.
Summary: I was an early adopter of Secunia PCI and this program is still SNL software; Not yet ready for prime-time. I cannot see how this program would of benefit to any user with all the remaining problem with it.
Let me detail them:

Version: Secunia Personal Software Inspector 1.5.0.1
Pros: No muss, no fuss. It's pretty much Set It and Forget it. It's free! It tell me about the problem, gives me lots of supporting information and tells me how to fix it.
Cons: Not a fault of the program but it always seems to pop up at the most inconvenient times.
Summary: This is one of the first programs I install whenever I get a new PC, or re-install the OS. It makes me feel safe. I recommend it to friends and family.
