This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Of all the ad blockers for Safari that I've tried, this one seems to do the best job of getting rid of unwanted content without false positives or other problems. However, it doesn't actually BLOCK the ads, it just HIDES them. As mentioned in another comment the ads will load and show up briefly during the page loading, then vanish. So while we don't have to see the ads, they still take up bandwidth and slow the loading time of the page. This software seems to be just a fancy implementation of blocking ads with a custom style sheet, though admittedly with much better controls. PithHelmet and GlimmerBlocker are the only other ad blockers I know of that prevent loading of ads in the first place, but the former is constantly breaking with every minor Safari update and doesn't work in 64-bit mode, and the latter is a proxy server that can significantly slow browsing and causes issues with persistent connections and session cookies. Is there any better option out there?

The Safari reset helped a bit but I was still disappointed with SAB's performance hit (and I have a slow internet connection in the hotel I'm staying at). I'm happy to report that version 1.9.6 is a big improvement in performance (especially with my slow connection). Pages load much faster than the previous version and I'm not longer tempted to disable SAB.

Disabling it and restarting Safari didn't fix the problem. Removing and restarting did. A total non-starter. I'm sticking with Pithhelmet.

I appreciate the constant fixes and added updated features because that means the program is getting better, and since it doesn't cost anything, any new version with updated features is very welcome. Since this was mentioned by someone in an earlier review, I'll add my 2 cents. Only an idiot would complain about too many updates, since it only takes about 2 minutes to download and install. If you don't like updates, nobody is making you get them. There are plenty of normal people who appreciate the hard work of developers that put the time into making a program available at no cost, and then continue to improve it. This developer is first rate.

It blocks about 99% as well as Adblock Plus for Firefox (there are some niggling issues here and there, but nothing critical), it's stable, the developer is not only VERY open to feedback but also replies quickly and with fixes, and its development is ongoing so there's no risk of it becoming abandonware. I won't use Safari without it anymore.
