  There is nothing good to say about this product.

  Total waste of money. Did work at all. I bought iCare Data Recovery, and it retrieved my files just fine. I should have read other reviews first. Now I see that people suspect this is just malware. I contacted the seller, but the email address isn't valid. They just take your money.

• Hijacks Your Web Browser

  This program hijacks all web browsers installed on your computer. It changes your homepage and your default search engine. Completely malicious. Upon installation, it tries to trick you into downloading more useless software. Even if you decline all the additional software, it will still modify all of your installed web browsers without your consent. Shame on CNET staff for giving this 5 stars. Do not install this garbage.

• Outstanding Program

  Summary

  Had a brain burp and permanently deleted $247 worth of downloaded videos. Immediately went to another computer (so as not to overwrite deleted files) and bought this program. Copied it to a USB stick and ran it form there on my computer. I started at 3 pm and went to bed at 11pm and was 50% done (I let it run all night). In the morning there were all my files (patience is a virtue), I undeleted all the videos and they all worked! If you are careful during installation you get the opportunity to decline downloading all the bloat programs. This was the best $40 I ever spent.

  It won't even see any files in the formatted card. Any other recovery software I've used, sees the files, but doesn't do a good job at recovering video. I thought this one would, because cnet gives it such a high rating. But it's bogus. I hope I can uninstall it. CNET, change your rating!

  I ran this piece of crap on a formatted drive and it found 8 gibberish files. I ran 2 alternative programs and each found much more than this. "Recover My Files" is pricey, but it found the whole directory layout and is easy to use.

  This program (trial) does not function well at all. The files it found were random and folders limited to the search criteria. No flexibility. It did not find any of the files I was looking for. It just found tmp files and random crap nobody would care about.

  I will never download from Cnet again. The first time I did I explicitly unchecked all the boxes requesting my info or to download miscellaneous files. Yet still all my toolbars were replaced by some horrible clunky (invasive) software. Then yesterday I tried to download this "Recover Files" software which received a 5-star rating from editors. Again, I explicitly looked for any warning of unwanted software, and opted out. Yet STILL I ended up with a "Top Arcade Hits" adware/spyware that corrupted all my browsers. A word of advice to other unlucky downloaders: It's a plug-in that you'll have to remove from all your browsers. Oh yeah, and the product (after crapping out 3 times) "retrieved" old files from 2010 that I had never heard of, then said I'd have to pay to check/restore them. If I could give this product (and Cnet) zero stars, I would.
