Pocket gives you an easy way to store articles and videos you want to check out later or when offline on your iOS device. This free app supports several ways of adding items to your list, and it allows you to assign tags to each item. Perhaps the only downside of the app is the lack of a built-in Web browser.
Following a quick installation, Pocket presents you with a short tutorial on how to use the app and asks you to register for the free service. During our tests, the app performed its main function very well -- capturing and storing articles for later consumption. In addition to including extensions for all popular desktop browsers, Pocket also boasts a Mobile Safari bookmarklet that works very well, too. One thing to note is that storing articles via the bookmarklet can take some time on a slow cellular connection, but it does eventually work. While testing, we enabled the Favorites bar in Safari and placed the bookmarklet there for a one-tap access. Other ways to send articles to Pocket include using the clipboard, e-mail, or via third-party apps. When it comes to looks, we were impressed by the app's modern iOS 7 design and the ability to present the content in a format that's easy to read.
If you're someone who has long subway commutes, or don't have a data plan, Pocket offers a great way to save interesting articles to read while offline or on-the-go. This app can be used free of charge and it works on both iPhones and iPads, which only adds to its overall appeal.
