Editors' review

Although not powerful enough for professional use, this free screensaver-creation tool makes a nice pick for most other folks. Picture and Sound Show's interface is accessible only via the screensaver panel in your PC's Display menu, which may confuse some users, but seems convenient enough to us. Clicking the Settings tab lets you choose your own photos and music files, set the image interval, determine the order of the slides, and apply a number of different transition effects. If you want to additionally customize your show, you can change the background color, reposition the images, and add captions. That's all fine and well if you're just making a screensaver for personal use, but you can't save your creations as SCR or EXE files for widespread distribution. Still, we recommend this application to home users looking for an easy and totally free way to dress up their desktop.

"Lacks good transitions / Can't arrow forward or back."

    December 31, 2011   |   By RonS7

Version: Picture and Sound Show 3.1d

    Pros

I suppose this program is ok.

    Cons

No fade transition. Can't use left and right arrow keys to move forward or back.

    Summary

I set it up just long enough to discover it does not offer fade as one of the transitions. I wouldn't care if a pic show screen saver walks with a limp and a cane as long as it smoothly and effectivly fades one image out and the next in and allows left and right arrow keys reviewing. Keep the sound options and all the other glitz. Windows 7 Photo Show is perfect except for lacking fade as a transition.

"IT'S A SCREENSAVER THAT ALREADY EXISTS IN WINDOWS"

    August 08, 2009   |   By joegeeks

Version: Picture and Sound Show 3.1d

    Pros

Sound option with the screensaver??? if thats a pro.

    Cons

Windows already provides you this type of screensaver. Some moron bumps your mouse and it's all over - A POS as far as I am concerned. This is clearly mis-filed under "Slide Show" and not "SCREEN SAVER"

    Summary

All these reviewers must be brain dead - Why do we need another slide show viewer that windows already provides - this is too highly rated for what it provides

"Perfect screensaver for my own photo collections"

    March 28, 2009   |   By Icebrg

Version: Picture and Sound Show 3.1d

    Pros

This screensaver makes it really easy to use my own personal pics. I simply choose a folder or folders to display and and that's about it. Settings include duration, transistions, etc. I've used this for many y ears and it's exactly what I need.

    Cons

I really can't think of any!

    Summary

If you want an easy to use screensaver that uses your own photo collections then this is the one for you.

    "It worked on Windows 98"

    February 21, 2009   |   By girloftheseas

Version: Picture and Sound Show 3.1d

    Pros

I made a very simple screen saver of two gifs on Windows 98, something that the first 5 screen saver makers I downloaded from download.com, could not do, although they said they did.

    Cons

The interface is not that self-explanatory. Perhaps a careful reading of the help pages will yield some rewards. Unclear how to preview transitions - or preview at all.

    Summary

So far, I'm reasonably happy, but only tried it a little. Compared to the 5 other screen saver makers that didn't work that I tried first from download.com, I'm ecstatic, although that isn't saying much, LOL.

    "Not for Vista"

    December 18, 2008   |   By nyteprowler

Version: Picture and Sound Show 3.1d

    Pros

    Unknown. Not usabile on Vista.

    Cons

Even though the download.com listing states that it is usable on Vista. It is not. The read me text associated with it makes no mention of its usability with Vista.

    "Wouldn`t Work"

    May 05, 2008   |   By Rusty19

Version: Picture and Sound Show 3.1d

    Pros

I like the idea of it, screensaver with sound and it is easy to set up and use, it worked well when I clicked preview....but that is a far as it went.

    Cons

Evertime I clicked apply and closed the properties menu it switched back to "none" so the screensaver would never start. I had to uninstall it to get my other screensavers to work properly.
