Add another name to the roster of feature-rich freeware image editors: PhotoScape. Although it eats and leaks about as much memory as Firefox, this editor is perfect for those making the jump between JPEG and am-pro dSLR work.
It supports RAW, as well as all other major image formats from JPEG and PNG to animated GIFs. It comes with prebuilt templates for users to create photo collages, fumetti, and Web comics, and has a standard set of red-eye removal, light/shadow, and contrast-editing features. One warning about the RAW processing: although it looks like you can drag and drop, the converter doesn't change RAW to JPEG unless you load the RAW file from within the native file navigator. It's a minor bug, but one that can lead you to believe that there's no RAW support at all. You can also batch edit images, combine them, and print them out one at a time or several at once.
The program loads fast and possesses an interface completely different from those familiar with Adobe's industry-leading tools. Users are greeted by circular navigator complemented by a tabbed nav on the top of the main screen. Most but not all main features are accessible from either nav. It might take some people time to get used to the unusual layout, but it's only unusual for an image editor; otherwise it's intuitive, fast, and lacks only the most advanced of image editing features.

Version: PhotoScape 3.4
"Give photoscape 3.4 a chance"
Pros: You can definetly go beyond the basic "tweaking" of photos. Has some really nice features such as; Region(out of focus), back lighting by %, decolor -1 to -10 (which is a pretty sweet feature), smart blur, and noise reduction just to name a few.
Cons: Lacks some of the super fine tuning features that are found in programs such as photoshop. But for free I think anyone can live with these deficiencies.
Summary: Like all software if a user is new to it, well it's going to take a little messing with to get up to speed on all the features you can utilize. I've been a photoscape user now for about two years. Give it a week or so and I think most people will ag... read more >>

Version: PhotoScape 3.4
Pros: I guess if got no computer savvy this software would not challenged you.
Cons: The features and the layout are almost childish.
Summary: There are just too many better photo shop programs to choose instead of this one.

Version: PhotoScape 3.4
"Best & Easiest Photo Editing I Have Ever Used!"
Pros: Has many features that paid programs do not have. One of the best features is the "Out of Focus" option. Here you can fix a part of the photo-an example be able to brighten up someone's face that has a shadow across it, or darken if too bright, etc.
Cons: Been using this program for 2 years and the only thing I found that it does not do as good of a job as Paint.Net is reducing noise. Also, does not do a good job on red eyes, I use S10 Red Eyes 3 for that & it does a much better job.
Summary: There is not much to dislike about this program-so easy to use and does a superb job of making a bad photo look good. With photos that are not fixable, I use the cartoon features and others features that have special effects just so as not to waste ... read more >>

"Fantastic program, easy to use"
Pros: Very easy to use and understand
Cons: None found as yet
Summary: For a free program, this is an excellent bit of kit, easy to use, I have used paid for photo editing software in the past and none have matched this for versatility.
