  I always used windows functionality to work with my russian files. Once i got a file named in russian. I couldn't even open it (win ME), this was crucial for me. After I installed parawin me, it solved my problem. The software is too expensive, I agree, but the guys from the company are nice and easy to negotiate. I paid 55 bucks only. Highly recommend.

  1) Cost of the product is so high for features that Windows has already. 2) After installing software and rebooting computer I received registration remainder. I also got new(?) functionality of the layout icon at the system tray. But all those featuries I can setup from the Windows Control Panel!!! So.. I uninstalled ParaWin. 3) Uninstaller halted my system and there are some program's dlls and fonts left. Grr.. ;( 4) And.. What for I must pay twice?!
