Download and install this version 1.0 patch for Pandora's Box. This patch fixes a bug specific to computers with new Pentium III processors, which produce the error "Unable to create DirectDraw surface. Make sure that DirectX is installed, and then try again." upon startup.
Note: This patch will only work with the retail version of Pandora's Box.

Bought Pandora's Box years ago and loved it. Tried to load on Vista but had major problems with compatibility. Installed the patch even though it did not say it was for Vista and it works really well I am able to play this game again.
Cons
A little slow to load the game but once in it is all good.
Summary
Well worth a try, wish I could find patches for some of my other older games that work as well as this one.
