"Support for Progress 4GL / OpenEdge ABL!"

April 19, 2013  |  By WeeMadArthur

 |  Version: PSPad editor 4.5.6 (2419) beta

Pros

Very nearly everything you've come to expect in a "Programmer's" editor, for free
Active, ongoing improvements by a development team who interact freely with users
It's an absolute work-horse

Cons

The "IntelliSense" feature is a little quirky

Summary

Priced right, supports my obscure syntax requirements, extensible, and solid as a rock.

"Lacks basic features"

June 13, 2012  |  By spril

 |  Version: PSPad editor 4.5.2 (2241)

Pros

Within its limited realm the editor seems to get by.

Cons

- Prohibits users from selecting proportional fonts (is this editor stuck in 1960?)
- Help is not installed in default download
- Cumbersome custom plug-in configuration is required to edit ASP files

Summary

If you like the courier font and don't mind the broken help functions (or are willing to take the time to fix them), this could be the editor for you.

"Several years of useful service"

May 21, 2012  |  By RJD185

 |  Version: PSPad editor 4.5.6 (2419) beta

Pros

Full featured and extensible

Cons

Not the best for extremely large (multi-Gb) text files

Summary

Been using this for many years now and it is a good work horse option for anyone needing a Windows text editor with decent features. I'm not a power user, but I have used UltraEdit and Notepad++ in the past. I prefer PS Pad.

"Would be excellent except for word-wrap bug"

January 04, 2010  |  By rjtaggart

 |  Version: PSPad editor 4.5.2 (2241)

Pros

Good interface, easy to use, syntax highlighting for most languages, good ftp support.

Cons

Word-wrap bug often causes the program to crash when pasting a large string (e.g. large url) into a document, making it unsuitable for writing web pages.

"Better Than Most You Pay For"

August 30, 2009  |  By phppunk

 |  Version: PSPad editor 4.5.4 (2353)

Pros

Most of the features of expensive IDE's and editors, and some they don't have -- and it's free! Last year I tried so many editors I lost count, installing every free oneand trials for many many others, and PS Pad won.

Cons

I wish the sidebar for file, project, code explorer, ftp, etc., was collapsible.

Summary

For something that's free, I can't believe it does what it does and that more people don't know about it. It's not as fancy an interface design as something like Dreamweaver et al, but it is still clear, it's there and easy to find, and there's little that it can't do in terms of most basic to intermediate and even advanced features that you need 98% of the time.

I use this for html, CSS, php, javascript, XML, CSV and My SQL, and so on. It is loaded with advanced features including a fast and easy to find and use ftp connection. Create and save projects, save favs, over 20+ syntax highlighters plus more you can install, excellent CSS & html synatx & highlighting & editing, word wrapping on and off, multiple character encoding options, an awesome code explorer tree sidebar to find functions, includes, variables, globals, etc..--this feature alone is as good or better than that in most expensive editors and dev environments. I could go on about the features. I've tried so many products int he past year, and I settled on using this most of the time and Notepad++ for other things. I even am a proud owner of Zend Studio, and I still find that I use PS Pad most of the time for routine tasks.
