With so many free PDF converters to choose from, AnvSoft's PDFMate PDF Converter stands out in a crowded field by offering a super-easy, wizard-based conversion process in an easy-to-use layout. PDFMate bundles six conversion tools in one interface: PDF to EPUB, Text, Image, HTML, SWF, and Word Converters, plus a tool for shrinking multipage PDF documents down to a single page. The latest release of PDFMate PDF Converter, Version 1.6.2, is suitable for Windows XP to 8.

PDFMate's immense, colorful, and clearly-labeled icons and buttons and step-by-step process make it a tool that nearly anyone can use. The program's layout explains the process, which starts with the Add PDF button. We added a test file, which appeared in a gridded list view in the main window. The program offers settings specific to each output file format, such as the ability to include or ignore images and create PDF passwords. PDFMate can process files individually or in batches, too: We simply had to select the files we wanted to process, choose the source or a custom directory, and then choose one of the seven output formats. We chose Doc, Word's output format, which can be a difficult format for some converters, in our experience. PDFMate offers several page merging options, too. We pressed Convert, but the tool produced a nag screen offering a paid upgrade, which we declined, and PDFMate proceeded to convert our file. We pressed Open to access the saved file, which opened normally in Word when we clicked it. The other conversion tools worked just as well, which wasn't surprising since the tool that handles Word docs well usually doesn't have too much trouble with text or HTML. But PDFMate also did a great job with EPUB files, which many eReader owners will doubtless appreciate.

PDFMate PDF Converter's nag screen is a bit annoying, but it doesn't compromise the program's functionality. The premium upgrade adds expanded page ranges and user support and removes the nag; but the free version will suit many users. Though many PDF converters offer ease of use, few are as seamless through each step as PDFMate PDF Converter.

"It doesn't convert, while another free program does."

    May 08, 2014   |   By jesusz

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.7.1

    Pros

    Are unknown to me.

    Cons

Downloaded version 1.7.1, it doesn't work under Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1.
In a couple of days, version 1.7.2 was released, I have downloaded and installed it, but same (absence of) results.
The specific results of both versions have been the same:
Have tried only to convert to Word and TXT formats.
Only a sort of header supposedly indicating number of page has been created when converting to TXT format, but nothing more, not a single line containing text.
When converting to Word a perfect blank page has been created.

    Summary

    Useless, I have uninstalled it.

    "a powerful PDF tool"

    April 18, 2014   |   By Kevineers

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.7.1

    Pros

I had lost an important electronic file. To make up, I had to scan the paper. And this PDF Converter helped me get it back by converting scanned PDF files to Word documents.Have a try.

    http://www.pdf-file-converter.com/pdf-converter-for-mac/

    Cons

Have tried the trial version. It is good. However, it could be much better if it allows me to edit PDF files directly

    Summary

I had lost an important electronic file. To make up, I had to scan the paper. And this PDF Converter helped me get it back by converting scanned PDF files to Word documents.

"OMG- This is the best and easiest converter (for me)"

    March 21, 2014   |   By bilzmail

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.7.1

    Pros

    1. Converted Annual Stmt from Citi Business (which could only be done as PDF which is less than helpful (actually impossible) in trying to get to do any accounting calculations. Duh! Also canceled my card! I could have downloaded the last 12 months in csv format but that did not get me the entire year I need for doing taxes. If I was smarter, I could have downloaded by month in late January and merged 13 separate files but the point is that having annual summary of expenses in PDF only makes no sense)

    2. Preserved my formatting which Acrobat XL (or whatever it is I bought did not.)

    Cons

Cannot think of anything right now. I am sooooooooooooooooo happy. Will follow-up if anything goes wrong tomorrow using the file.(I am quitting today on this high note)

    Summary

Cutting my throat but I only download once a year at tax time (and next year will not have to as I cancelled the card), I think these people could make a lot more money by allowing a limited number of days free trial. I would certainly buy it except that now I do not need it. Oh happy happy days.
All three of my dogs and my husband are angry at me for being so grumpy for 2 days. I was just about ready start parsing a line at a time. These people probably saved my marriage. Thank-you. Thank-you. Thank-you. Time to go make amends with the warm-ware.

PS I am not nearly so expressive most of the time ( I am a CPA) but it has been a rotten two days before I found this software.

    "Fails conversion to Word"

    December 10, 2013   |   By hwellerlewis

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.7.1

    Pros

Converted the words, but not the order or the formatting

    Cons

Completely failed to retain any formatting features. Font all over the place. It would be quicker to rekey the document than to try and remove the formatting errors.

    Summary

Don't understand how anyone has rated this 5 stars - AFAICS, it's hopeless. Maybe it works for other formats, but for PDF to Word, waste of time. Will be uninstalling once I've submitted this.

"Works in usual circumstances. Fails in others"

    August 28, 2013   |   By jthiyagu

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.70

    Pros

Tried it for converting PDF to Word. Worked for converting PDF with pure English text to Word. But failed for a PDF document with English and Non-English (Sanskrit in Devnagari script) text. Sanskrit words were converted to garbage.

    Cons

Does not work for Non-English text.
Does not open protected PDF files despite giving the password in Advanced Settings.
Would definitely not convert if we do not know the reading password or permission password (to edit the PDF)

    "Excellent!"

    July 07, 2013   |   By super-rita007

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.64

    Pros

    1. Easy-to-use interface;
    2. Improved quality. Especially for the image conversion.
    3. Convert fast and support batch conversion;
    4. Support to merge 4 pages into 1 page. It really helps me save a lot of paper!

    Cons

    Not find yet.

    Summary

As freeware the program is good enough I suppose.I use it to convert PDF to Epub files so that I can read the eBooks on Kindle. It works quite well for me. The merge function also helps me a lot. To put 4 pages or 2 pages in only 1 page really saves lots of paper when printing the PDF files. Environmentally and friendly. I will keep following it.

    "Adds Junk toolbar can't Uninstall"

    March 26, 2013   |   By MarkOcean

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.61

    Pros

I didn't even bother to use this "not free" app. Can't avoid the junk with it.

    Cons

Hard to uninstall MixiDJ V3 toolbar, complete junk; can't install PDFMate w/o getting the add on junk.
Leaves empty folders ANVSOFT, Conduit and MixiDJ_V3. Not M/S uninstall or "Fixit" gets rid of all the residue.

    RECOMMEND AVOID THIS!!

    Summary

    COMES W/ CLUTTER AND JUNK!!

"Perfectly Converts and is FREE (I'll explain)"

    March 06, 2013   |   By Imogen7Ryan

    Version: PDFMate PDF Converter 1.61

    Pros

It can convert pdf's to EPUB, TEXT, Image, PDF (Password protected option). It works, it's free and it's fast. Each file conversion has its own options too. You can also do batch conversions. Really useful program.

    Cons

You DO NOT have to upgrade to a paid version. All that happens is after each conversion a pop-up box comes up 'Asking' if you want to upgrade. Just click No.

    Summary

It IS free but you are given the option to upgrade which you either go for or simply decline. It's great that pdf's can be converted into many formats using PDF Mate. It creates a folder where the conversions are stored but I am sure that you can change the output destination. Honestly this is Free :)
