CNET Editors' review
Creating and editing PDF files using Adobe Acrobat has become costly due to the complexity and the necessary resources for running the app under optimal conditions. Regardless of your PDF editing skills and even without using a powerful computer, with PDF Studio for Mac you can do anything you want in a PDF document.
Available as free to try, PDF Studio for Mac offers a standard and a pro version, and you can choose between the two if you decide to purchase it. Without a license you can use both versions for as long as you want and at their full functionality. The only restriction is the watermark on the PDF file you will create or edit. The installation process for this software is very simple. All you have to do is to unzip the file, launch the installer, and follow the guidelines. Even if you don't get a Mac OS X-like experience, this software will provide you with a user-friendly interface and an amazing suite of useful tools displayed on the top toolbar. The program allows you to add interactive elements like links to an external Web site or sounds. Besides that, you can add text comments, highlight paragraphs, underline, change text properties, delete text content, etc.
The best way to exchange documents in an office setting or via Internet is using the PDF format. PDF Studio for Mac delivers the most suitable solution whether it's being used in a business environment or for personal purposes.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of PDF Studio for Mac 8.2.0.

"Excellent program!"
Version: PDF Studio 8.2.0
Pros
It is multi-platform and uses just few resources.
Cons
It's not free
Summary
PDF Studio is and excellent alternative to the heavy Adobe Acrobat, without losing functionality.
-
"Great if you need advanced PDF functionality"
Version: PDF Studio 7.03
Pros
Extensive set of annotation and markup tools, well-designed and easily accessible. For my own uses, one of the most important that is not commonly found is adding scaled lines (like measuring scaled distances on an architectural plan), which this does very well.
Cons
Does not respond to many common trackpad gestures (zoom, shrink, for example)
Summary
Overall a very nice alternative to the bloated Adobe product when you need advanced PDF functionality on the Mac, especially if you need to measure scaled distances.
-
"An excellent PDF editor for Linux and Windows"
Version: PDF Studio 6.62
Pros
Allows full editing of PDFs in Linux including highlighting and notes.
Can be used in Linux and Windows so if you switch between two OS, you can continue to use PDF Studio with the same license.
Reasonable cost.Cons
- does not yet have OCR ability built in like Adobe Acrobat Professional
- the selection of text is not as slick as in Adobe Acrobat Pro. In PDF Studio, when you copy and paste text from PDFs, the formatting is not preserved. A minor quibble for me.Summary
I've used PDF Studio for 4 years and have been very pleased with its performance. Recent versions are substantially better than earlier versions. It was, and perhaps still is, the only PDF editing tool for Linux that allows full editing of PDFs.

"Great for a student"
Version: PDF Studio 6.60
Pros
Simplicity (how's that for keeping it simple)
Cons
For a student, it's a bit pricey, especially if you want to use it on a few computers.
Summary
I've been using Skim for mac and don't really like it. This program offers all that you need to notate documents you need to review and it works easily and fast enough to note while listening to a lecture.

"Does almost everything adobe does for ALOT cheaper"
Version: PDF Studio 6.40
Pros
nice for deleting pages, extracting, merging, highlighting pdfs
Cons
just cannot correct existing text
Summary
Great product, at fraction of cost of Adob
-
"Fantastic Product!!!"
Version: PDF Studio 6.20
Pros
My favorite part about PDF studio is the easiness of the product.. every imaginable tool is easily accessed and used.
Cons
Not very many cons.. maybe the icon could be improved :-P
-
"Perfect affordable PDF Editor for Mac Users"
Version: PDF Studio 5.7
Pros
I created a document in word and needed to create a PDF with the internal links still intact. Didn't want to splurge on Acrobat so needed an affordable alternative. PDF Studio was quite user friendly and allowed me to add my links back into my PDF.
Cons
Takes a little while to familiarize oneself with the toolbar.
Summary
I've tried a couple different demo versions of PDF Editors for Mac, and this one seemed to give me the most flexibility. It has tons of features and allowed me to add internal links into my documents. I especially liked how I could change the border color of my internal links very easily so that I could hide the link boxes by giving them a white border. The other programs I tried, like PDFPen, weren't quite as easy to use and didn't give me these extra options. Bottom line, I think that PDF Studio is the best bang for your buck as a Mac User.

"great product, simple to use, and you can annotate your PDF's"
Version: PDF Studio 4.3
Pros
I downloaded PDF Studio after finding it on CNET, when I was looking for a software that would allow me to create PDFs from scanned documents, and allow me to annotate them. I use it for scanning invoices and other documents that I need to send to my accountant. The great thing is that it allows you to add highlighting, text, stamps and notes, and other drawings in your PDF file. Which is great when you want to send scanned documents (or PDFs created by your wordprocessor, or received through other sources) with comments or clarifications.
I'm sure Acrobat does a lot more, but this does all I need, at a fraction of the cost.
Cons
It would be nice if the software would tell me what size a document is going to be, depending on the settings I choose. I'd like to be able to get the best possible resolution with a minimum size of the document.
So far, "deflated" works best as compression option, but it was a matter of trial & error.

"Very useful tool"
Version: PDF Studio 4.41
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have recently bought this tool and I find it quite useful and very easy to use. I work in Academia and spend a lot of time reviewing articles and commenting them. PDF Studio is great for that, I can highlight text, add sticky notes, draw circles.

"Interesting effort, but..."
Version: PDF Studio 4.41
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is a worthy first approximation, but at $60 it's a little too pricey. PDF Clerk and PDF Pen Pro do much the same thing as this for about half the price.
The GUI for this is a little too Windows 2000 Professional for me, even to the file navigation panel with its Windows directory feel as opposed to the Mac's standard Finder views.
If you have Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional, you don't need this--and certainly to create PDFs you don't need it since Max OSX will do that for you as a matter of course.
