Origin Client for Mac

Origin Client refers to the former desktop distribution platform developed by Electronic Arts for purchasing, downloading, and managing PC and Mac games. The original client has been retired and replaced by the EA app, which now serves as the active platform for Electronic Arts services. The application provides access to a Game Library linked to an EA account, where purchased titles and installed games are organized and launched.

EA app integrated Digital Store lists Electronic Arts titles and downloadable content connected to the same account system. The software also maintains Social Features, including friend lists and messaging tools, alongside Cloud Saves that synchronize supported game data with EA servers.

Gaming evolved

The EA app operates as Electronic Arts’ current desktop platform for digital distribution and game management. Within the application, the Game Library records purchased titles associated with an EA account and displays installed games in a structured launcher interface. The client manages downloads, updates, and installation records while maintaining license authentication through EA servers. Installed titles include Electronic Arts releases such as The Sims 4 and FIFA 12.

The integrated Digital Store functions as the purchasing interface within the application. Store listings present Electronic Arts titles, expansions, and downloadable content connected to the EA account system. Purchases attach directly to the account library and become available for installation through the launcher environment. Product pages display media previews, game descriptions, and add-on listings that connect directly to the client-managed download and installation process.

Account connectivity also supports Social Features, including a friends list that displays users' status and integrated messaging tools within the application. When a supported title launches on another device using the same EA account, stored save data synchronizes through the platform’s account services, maintaining save files for supported games across different installations of the program. However, it requires authentication with an EA account to access the platform.

From Origin to EA

Origin Client now represents the legacy name of Electronic Arts’ former desktop distribution software. The platform has fully transitioned to the EA app, which retains the core systems previously used in Origin, including account-linked game libraries, in-game store purchases, social communication tools, and cloud save synchronization. The application also operates as a licensing service for EA titles launched via external storefronts.
