With its plentiful extras and ease of customization, Notepad Pro proves to be a powerful freeware notepad replacement. It comes as a simple executable, so you won't even need to install it. The utility's plain interface is all business, and that's fine with us.

You can choose how the window appears, stripping off the menu bar, toolbar, or both. The menu bar looks like a pared down version of Windows Notepad, but it packs quite a few more options on the File menu. Programmers will love the Syntax Highlight feature, which makes it easier to spot several programming languages within text files. The tabs are a nice upgrade for multiwindow editing. Among its many other extras, Notepad Pro has enhanced printing features, a useful status bar showing character and line counts, and a tool to quickly number each line of text.

This free application is a smart text editor that's easy enough for the newbie to use, but has features that will appeal to the more advanced user.

Too basic for most users. It has menu for programmers

Pros
No installation required, just run the program. There is a menu for programmers that should allow for saving time.
Cons
Very basic menu, most features already appear in other software. It has a menu to play a game: "Name that picture". You can remove that menu. If you start it: it will show you how to play it and to disable the window you have to visit the website.
Summary
Pasting a text from MS Word would give you piain text. If you need the original fonts and other customizations from work this notepad would do what most notepads would do: strip everything from it. For regular users this software does not seem to have anythng new.

+ easy to use, very intuitive <p>+ highly customizeable for such a small app<p>+ no install required<p>+ very quick start up<p>+ different fonts and colours for each tab possible<p>+ but settings for all tabs possible as well
Cons
- creates registry entry<p>- does not save font colour<p>- same font colour for edit window and gutter, but not same bg colour<p> (I prefer dark bg with light font colour, gutter bg is light grey, light font colour is not readable)

It is a ploy to get you to play their game. Do not fall for it.
