You do not own your members, Ning does. Ning customer support is nearly non-existent. Support is e-mail only and a different person answers your e-mails every time (this makes holding a conversation nearly impossible).
Summary
I have a ning network and I am ashamed I didn't do more research. Ning has a Better Business Bureau rating of F: http://sanjose.bbb.org/Business-Report/Ning-Inc-245024 They deserve worse.
Ning is the worst company I have ever tried to do business with. Customer support is 100x worse than Dell and that should speak for itself. -

Everyone has their own opinion; IMHO there are no pros since Ning decided to collect advertising revenue AND charge a fee for all sites. I used to have three sites with Ning. I have closed all three.
Cons
Ning's "free" sites were already supported by ads. You had to pay a fee if you wanted to collect the profits from the ads on your site - bandwidth had to be paid for somehow - but for Ning to profit from ads AND charge for all sites is a bit much.
Summary
Ning should be removed from the "free" results because it's not free anymore.

The other two reviews seem to have clicked the add under the Ning listing, not Ning! As a site that lets you create your own social network, Ning is a really powerful tool for groups to use.
