  I am not the old, befuddled sort but did not find it easy to hit the ground running here. Oddly enough, though in need of more user friendly touches, Grab It is beginning to work for me. I'd also add, just buying Forte Agent sounds better and better to me.

  Now that some newsgroups have millions of files listed, accessing large newgroups can be painfully slow. This program efficiently allows quick searches while also providing SSL and multiple connections for faster downloading. Accessing more than one news server simultaneously, however, however, has yet not worked for me although the program makes it easy to shift between news servers. The interface is logical but I would like some improvements. For example, I would like to select the columns I want to view and their order in the display, similar to the way you can in Windows explorer. You can search on the listed entry, but not yet on file name, author, date, etc, although you can column sort. I would also like to be able to search within a search and also sort within a sort. Selecting articles could be improved. Control-A does not work to select all, although you can select all by using the menus. I would really like to tag entries as you can with Xnews or with the old DOS Xtree program. The standard Windows method is used, but if you forget to hold down the control-key when highlighting a selection, you loose all your previous highlights. I have several other quibbles, similar to those above, but the author seems to be gradually fixing things. Altogether, News File Grabber is an impressive piece of programming, apparently by a single programmer, especially in the efficient way it handles very large newsgroups.

  Pros

  This program is very straightforward in downloading binaries. Fast, very easy to use and a nice interface. You even need not to "learn" how to use it. <p>In the mean time my favourite for downloading binaries, well done!

  downloads only one at a time. I have dial-up but can do more with Outlook. All I am really looking for is Outlook Express ease with "yEnc" capability- like everyone else, I assume.

  Here's a great, easy to use program that does all the decoding and downloading for you. I have tested it on various newsgroups and it has been excellent!
