"Not bad, but needs work!"
Version: MusicIP Mixer 1.6
Pros
Great concept. Love the idea of a simple way to select one song, click twice, and get a playlist of similar songs. The GUI may be old, but it's simple and easy to use......at least in design.
Cons
Very slow to check library. The double click method to create a playlist takes a long time....and often gets hung up. The commands seem to respond very slowly. The program hasn't been updated in a long time and I think the operations show it.
Summary
I really liked the idea..........but the product doesn't work as well as I'd expect. I still use it, but now I'm looking for a simple little program that does exactly the same thing.....but does it well!!

"Great For Larger Music Collections"
Version: MusicIP Mixer 1.6
Pros
Great organizer for larger collections. Builds high-quality playlaylists based upon analysis of musical similarity
Cons
Could be more flexible/have more fields in the filters section
Summary
Great piece of software if you have a larger collection. Mine is about 15,000 titles and I found that I was listening to less than 1% of it. I've spent the time to complete the 'genre' field for each song in my collection with a genre and style (for example, Rock--Blues Rock or Rock--Hard Rock) using the genre-styles information on Allmusic.com. With MusicIP mixer's filter function, I can filter for, say, Rock--Blues Rock, and up come all of my tracks from Clapton, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc. I can select one or more songs from that grouping and click mix, and MusicIP mixer instantly sorts through all tracks identified as Rock--Blues Rock (about 400 in my collection) and build a list of 50 that, based on MusicIP's analysis, are the most similar to the one(s) I selected. So, if I feel like hearing Stevie Ray's 'Texas Flood' and ZZ Top's 'LaGrange', I select those, and MusicIP goes finds 48 more that rank out as similar and builds a list of 50. Nice! I'm now listening to many more of my tracks as MusicIP pulls things into a playlist that wouldn't immediately come to mind when I would build a play list 'the old fashioned way'.
I'm just now beginning to experiment with the 'Moods' feature. Allmusic.com lists 'moods' along with the artist's profiles. If I can incorporate that information into my MP3's ID tags, I think I might be able to set MusicIP up to build a list depending on my mood. So, if I'm feeling somber, thoughful and reflective, I could put that into MusicIP and it would scan my music dtabase and buld a list of music associated with those moods. -
"Love it!"
Version: MusicIP Mixer 1.6
Pros
This is the best music software I have used. Creates mixes with one click and can export right to itunes and to your ipod.

"This is NOT good for large collections - VERY slow - Good Idea though"
Version: MusicIP Mixer 1.6
Pros
These guys have a GREAT idea.
It is a great buy for the money, it is just not a professional quality product yet though. 4/2008
Cons
MusicIp is super lethargic.
If you're in a hurry forget it. If you are leaving the office for awhile, run it then. IS NOT FAST in any way.
Every option is based on the freeware/linux/java style of doing things. Great for development, but a real Windows power user with 50,000 plus files is going to hate this product. From the interface, options/preferences to the speed.

"Really good tool for large digital music collections"
Version: MusicIP Mixer 1.6
Pros
Nice interface, easy to learn and easy to use. It automatically analyzes and validates your music. Choose a song from album-, genre- or artist-list and hit "mix", and creates a playlist based on the song you chose. You can play it in the programs own player or hit "send to" and send it to your computer's default media/mp3-player. Send it to WMP 11 with the crossfade function enabled, and you get the perfect party set!
Cons
The analyzing and validating takes a really long time and takes some CPU from your computer, but it's worth the wait! Other peoples claim it's impossible to install, but i can't say anything about that. I see no reason to get rid of it so far!
This free version can "only" mix 75 songs at a time. But who cares? This is an excellent program to be absolutely free! I really recommend it!
