This free educational program teaches children the basic alphabet, counting skills, and colors, but lacks some aspects found in similar applications. Minisebran provides eight tutorials and exercises to teach the fundamentals. You'll also find simple drawing and coloring tools, and exercises for mouse and keyboard familiarization. Upon launching, Minisebran takes over your entire screen and is accompanied by an annoying background sound; thankfully, there's an option for disabling sound.
The interface uses large buttons, which makes it ideal for children. The program features a game that instructs players to pick the object that differs from the group. If your child answers correctly, a smiley face appears over the answer; however, an incorrect answer prevents the user from moving to the next question. It would've been nice if positive statements such as "Great Job" or "That's Right" were given, as in similar educational software. Subjects regarding shapes, sounds, or more fun-filled games to entertain kids would have been nice additions to the program. Nonetheless, parents will appreciate that it's offered at no cost, and it should prove entertaining for preschoolers.

Version: Minisebran 1.10
"Definitely a very nice start for my kid."
Pros: Teaches interactively in three languages, two dimensions and multiple colors: mouse point-and-clicking, selecting figures and colors, painting, and even basic art/design with a little creativity. Limited tools actually help the child stay focused on doing the most with little, even as he/she grows.
Cons: The music and test response need improvement, but hey! this is the mini- version. I am trying Sebran next... Thanks a lot!

Cons: none no problems. I did hook up my old mouse cuz kids are clickers....

Version: Minisebran 1.10
"Good to keep your 4 year old happy for hours"
Pros: Very easy to use, has large icons, verbal instructions
Cons: Limited educational material. If your kid knows the numbers to 10 - he/she will spend all the time doodling. The maths and letters is elementary
Summary: I would suggest this for 3-4 years olds, just starting to explore the alphabet and numbers and the keyboard.
I look forward to seeing something a bit more advanced for my 5 year old. Maybe addition and subtraction, multiplication tables (yes, ... read more >> - See all 3 user reviews Write review
