"Worth what I paid for it"

    January 14, 2012  |   By BHenry1969

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 7.0

    Pros

    Did what I needed once.

    Cons

    Everything else.

    Summary

I used it to remove an old Ubuntu partition on my C drive that Windows XP couldn't remove on its own, then tried to reinstall Ubuntu on my other hard drive. I got rid of the old C partition easily enough and extended C back to its full capacity of 500GB. When I tried to do the same with my D drive (Ubuntu having proved worthless), I could no longer access the functions that let me recover the C partition. No more resizing, merging, or anything. A one-shot wonder which, as I said, is worth what I paid for it: nothing.

    Updated on Jan 14, 2012

Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that while I was trying to scan my D drive with this program--which I was doing as I wrote the previous review--it locked up my D drive, caused Windows to lose it (can't even find it under My Computer or Control Panel) and it caused the loss of all my data. Good job, guys! The product page also says you can merge partitions in the freeware version. You can't. You're also supposed to move or resize them in the free home version. Can't do that, either. Don't bother downloading it. It's not what it's advertised to be and you run the risk of ruining your system.

    "Licensed version functions well."

    January 6, 2012  |   By nimbus46

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 7.0

    Pros

Able to convert dynamic disks to basic (that was my main reason for buying it). GUI is nice and easy to use. Operations seem to work without problems.

    Cons

Most of the functions are available in free software as well. Many can be handled by Windows7 itself.

    "Not free, not functional"

    October 2, 2011  |   By cmdr002

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 7.0

    Pros

    None. Couldn't perform basic operations

    Cons

Claims to be a free program but after installing it it claims itself a demo. Because of this is also claims to not be able to peform "batch operations", even though I only ordered a resize operation.

    Summary

It did not execute any function I ordered it.
Windows XP, attempting to deal with large FAT32 partitions.

"Works well with NTFS - Not so well otherwise"

    June 27, 2011  |   By powakee

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 6.0

    Pros

Does what it says it will do.

    Cons

I had a disk w/ Ubuntu on it and I wanted to partition for dual boot. I had to create a full partition an NTFS first; then I could run this program and split the partition and then I had to format the "other" partition for Ubuntu.

    Summary

I have used Partition Magic before and found it easier to use than this program . However, this program was free. So, a few extra steps, while annoying, was worth the price of admission.

    "Average program, but BE AWARE!"

    August 27, 2010  |   By Kefdub

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 5.2

    Pros

does (almost) what it says. Nice clean UI.

    Cons

I merged two partitions, and it messed up my harddrive. It still works though, but now my hdd wont stop loading - god knows what it's loading? - I predict the death of my hdd soon. My advice is to stay away from the merge part.

    Summary

Simple nice UI. But i think there are better alternatives. STAY AWAY FROM THE MERGE FEATURE!!

    Updated on Aug 28, 2010

Just realized that it switched my partions on my two harddrives. So to be fair, this is actually a fine tool.

"In bad need of User's Guide!"

    June 3, 2010  |   By edwardsjf

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 5.0

    Pros

    Haven't used enough to know.

    Cons

Change Cluster Size in Windows 7 failed. During reboot, 'couldn't install because partition needed to be defragmented first'. Defragmented, next reboot, can't change cluster size, not compatible with NTFS compressed data'. How to solve this, nadda?

    Summary

The error messages flashed on and off the screen so fast during reboot that you couldn't write them down. No help on the internet or a user's guide as to how to solve problems when they occur.

I got this program for the sole purpose of being able to change cluster size in Windows 7 and it doesn't tell you what to do the fix the issue.
As far as I'm concerned it can't change the cluster size as advertised.

Take a pass on this producrt!

    "Excellent programme!"

    May 25, 2010  |   By tekadict

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 5.0

    Pros

    1) Easy to use(and I'm a relative novice)
    2) It's FREE
    3) tech. Support- BRILLIANT

    Cons

Have not yet had any problems.

    Summary

I have used this programme 2/3 times over the past 12mths.and then it was totally free( donations were not even requested), and the technical support was the best I have ever received, so I asked if I could make a donation. They reluctantly agreed.
My initial problem was in trying to partition my C;\ drive. If you have a Ext. HD then disconnect it whilst partitioning C;\ drive.
Tech Support were answering my e-mails virtually within minutes

"It worked, and it didn't mess up my system"

    April 12, 2010  |   By parvan

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 4.2.2

    Pros

I was able to adjust the sizes of my partitions

    Cons

The help is not very helpful. I ended up using a lot more trial-and-error than I am comfortable with when I'm making changes to my system.

    Summary

Just to be clear, what I used is Partition Wizard Professional v5.0. Since that isn't listed on download.com, I'm putting my review under this version.
I just started using a new Win 7 laptop. It's default configuration had a fairly small C: partition for software and a larger D: partition for data. I wanted to increase C: at the expense of D:
Partition Wizard running under Windows was able to reduce D: no problem. However, it was unable to increase C:, because according to it the C: partition was in use. The program told me to reboot, saying that the changes would take place when the system booted up. However, it couldn't manage that either, so I was left with two small partitions and a lot of unallocated space.
At that point I downloaded an iso file from MT Solutions web site and burned it to a CD. I then booted from the CD, which I guess has a mini operating system that runs Partition Wizard. Running without Windows, I was able to resize C:.
I then rebooted back into Windows, and much to my relief, everything still worked.
So the software works, but if it is to be used by non-IT pros like me, it really needs better help information. Nowhere was it made clear that if you want to resize the boot partition you need to download additional software, burn a CD, and boot from the CD. The process makes sense when you think about it, but if you start off knowing nothing about the process you tend to rely on the software publisher's information, which isn't adequate.

"This program may cause your HD to pass S.M.A.R.T test !"

    February 25, 2010  |   By BB8Family

Version: MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition 4.2.2

    Pros

Outlook is very similar to Partition Magic, and same ops.

    Cons

I used this PW v4.2.2 after fresh WIN7 install to resize the WIN-7 and other data partition. The program sound work and completed. But, after I power down the PC, the HD fail to pass S.M.A.R.T. with error code 0078, and need HD replacement (twice).

    Summary

I am really doubtful the compatibility of this WP v.4.2.2 in WIN-7 environment. Remark : I use this in a fresh 500 GB or 1TB SATA harddisk environment. Both fail with same S.M.A.R.T. error, and need total HD replacement !!
