There aren't any problems encrypting and decrypting files with this program, but we were a little turned off by the push for installing other software by the same publishers.

MEO File Encryption Software's user interface is small and to the point. The three prominent command buttons for encrypting and decrypting files and emails make it difficult to make a mistake. Once we selected the Encrypt files button, we selected our file, created an output file, and opted to make it a self-decrypting file. We were disappointed by the measly two algorithm method choices (Blowfish and 3-Des), but encryption was quick and effective. Decryption was just as easy. Encrypting an email requires that you configure your SMTP settings, which might intimidate novice users, but sending encrypted files was a breeze.

The program left behind a folder in the installation directly that had to be manually removed after it was uninstalled, but this was a minor inconvenience. As far as free file encryption programs go, this is one of the better ones we've seen. We recommend it for moderate to experienced users.

This program also accepts command-line parameters. Few encryption utilities do that. So, I have integrated this program in the WinCommander menu. Recommended also for WinCommander users.

Pros
It's so straightforward that it's hard to make a mistake. Really fast. Clean download and install. Can encrypt files and folders, all file types.
Cons
This software could use: A file shredder to optionally wipe the encrypted file immediately, but there are other tiny freeware for that. Still 5 stars. Optional password hint. I'm still not taking down a star because I love the small size (328 Kb!!!)
Summary
This software absolutely DOES NOT 1. hide your folders/files so that even you might forget on which USB flash disk you stored your file in cos you can't see it, 2. rename your file into gibberish so that you'll have to constantly decrypt everything to see which file you need. You have the option to rename your output file. 3. create a mind boggling secret partition 4. ask you to specify advanced settings and other geeky stuff that ordinary mortals don't understand anyway. There are just 2 options that are clearly explained: fast but not strong, or slow but strong encryption. 5. require you to make a key file that you'll lose forever if you lose your flash disk or if it becomes damaged that you have to reformat. You can create a self decrypting file. This software is amazingly small and simple for the average non-techie.
Can't expect more than this in free software. Best!!!

Summary
If simple is better, and I think it usually is, then this is one of the best. Whether encrypting or decrypting, this software has always worked quickly and flawlessly for me. While the interface may not be fancy, it is intuitive. I do believe if you bought your first pc this morning, you could be a master of this program by noon. It is certainly the only encryption software I'll ever need.
Probably the best encryption app around.

Pros
First its free, it easly locks any files or folders that you want. The file it converts the lock one to is an meo type file, which most users wont know what it is so they wont try to access it, plus they wont know your password. Works with Vista.
Cons
It can sometimes take a while to unpack a folder or to lock it...but some of the ones I was locking were 50mb+. At the moment this is the only con that I can find,
Summary
I like this because for a good long time I was looking for a decent encryption application and it had to be free. This is free and does its job easily and without problems. I would definitly try this if you dont want to spend money on some of the applications out there as it does exactley what you need from it.

The program is easy to install, compatible with Vista, and allows for files to be passworded and sent to others who know the password. Adding files or adding folders options are a deff plus.
Cons
Not able to drag-and-drop files into the queue.

I have already reccomended this program to three people. I will be using this program for some time, and look forward to new releases.
